Major brands really fight hard for some insanely expensive air time during the broadcast. Of the major game systems, word is that the PSP is the only one to show up during this critical event. In case you were wondering which brands were on the most frequently on the tips of everybody’s tongues, social media services provider Vitrue compiled a list of the top 100 out of about 2000. The list represents an aggregated day-to-day analysis of online conversations, media sharing websites, forums, blogs, and other interactive Internet resources, intending to reveal the most talked-about names of the past year. Backyard hacker agilemonkey has come up with a refreshing homebrew application that he calls PSP PPG v0.22. This interesting snippet of code lets you display English TV listings on your PlayStation Portable using CFW. It acts as a TV guide utilizing the XMLTV format to render its listings. As proud that we are that Sony is diligently improving its goods, our hearts are broken that OFW 5.03 brought its iron fist down on the GripShift exploit. Since the release of 5.03, word from the grapevine is that Miriam immediately went to work in his top-secret underworld laboratory to cook up a homebrew enabler. So far, though, the HEN hasn’t appeared online.

But at least there’s an explanation.

THQ Is Going Under, Saddening Wrestling Fans

The game studio THQ may, in fact, be closing its doors. Word on the grapevine is that internal discord is leading to a full shutdown. THQ has recently been in some trouble: Last November, they closed five studios altogether. According to our intelligence reports from behind corporate lines, THQ may be gearing up to officially announce their dissolution. It could be a total collapse of the company, or maybe just a restructuring. In either case, we’re pretty sure that what projects were in the queue are now significantly delayed, or even canceled. We’ll have to look into it. Sad times.

Sony Financial Report Indicates Sales Low For PlayStation Hardware

Sony just put up some numbers that reflect the cost-cutting activity happening at the corporate mega-level, high above the heads of the PlayStation Group.

The report states that, compared to last year, the games division is down 32% in revenue. Sales of hardware fell for each of their primary platforms. PS3 dropped 440,000 units. The PSP lost 680,000 units by selling just over 5 million. Even the PS2 took a big hit, selling just 2.52 million units.

We can expect that Sony would be in a little bit of a slump, given the current fiscal climate, but it’s likely that their pricing…

Developer Gaby_64 has just released the newest iteration of his treasured homebrew application, Aircrack-PSP. The application is an interpretation of DSaircrack. DSaircrack, of course, was a port of Aircrack-ng, a WEP/WPA-PSK key cracking utility. Gaby_64 elaborates on the situation:
