Hot on the heels of the latest official PSP Firmware release from Sony, v5.03, comes Dark AleX’s latest custom firmware update. The most current version is now M33-6, which came just minutes after the release of M33-5. CFW 5.00 M33-6 is an exciting piece of homebrew awesomeness that shows off the prowess of the PSP underground. The following text is from the changelog:
This update is a try to fix memory stick low speed since 3.80.
Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.
If you come from a version prior to 5.00 M33, put sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.
Changes in 5.00 M33-5:
A setting has been added to recovery, that, when enabled it may increase memory stick reading speed. (only on the psp, not in the pc). By default it is disabled. If you installed 3.71 fatmsmod, do not use this setting, as its perfomance with 3.71 driver has not been tested. Instead, reinstall 5.00 m33-4 using dc8 and update to 5.00 m33-5
Changes in 5.00 M33-6, according to the developer:
- Fixed a bug that made unbootable psp without memory stick or with a bad one.
- The included file fat_comparison.html contains a comparison of perfomance between the 5.00 fat driver, the 3.71 one, and the 5.00 one with the speed up hack during the read of an iso. The test was done on the game Valkyrie Profile in cso format in march33 mode. Other games, modes and applications different than iso reading showed similar results.

i have psp slim 2004 and cfw 5.00m33-6 and i want to download umd dumper on it.I also downloaded umd dumper software and installed 10 times on my psp.The icon appears on game says umd dumper and second icon says corrupted data.whe i open umd dumper it takes a minute then it says this game could not be started and this and that(80000152..).please alex solve my problem.i am a great fan of you.and when you will release new cfw.i suggest you that make the cfw so that the psn website can be run.

Don’t people know why he only released certain CFW’s? They had advantages, new functions!
6.00/6.10/6.20 are complete bs that don’t deserve to be a CFW, only OFW, don’t get me wrong but they’re not worth it, only for people who want them to play backup games.
5.00 M33-6 is still pretty good, but when I buy more new games I’ll upgrade to 6.20, to be able to play online and go into PSN service.
Oh and GEN? Well, what do you know.. They’re stuck at 5.50 will they ever get passed through it? dunno, most probably not.
Sony is getting the complete knowledge of the PSP homebrew community and it’s ending.
People have to accept the truth and not make stupid fake statements from DA, which ain’t true.
Last but not least, I’ve contributed A LOT to the PSP community and I still do, but.. Frankly it’s not worth it anymore.
Thank god Sony is finally doing the homework properly, they’re getting the handle of it again and forever. CFW isn’t used for piracy but people use it.. I say no more cuz ain’t needed.

Hey there, I am planning to make a new CFW in Janurary 2010. This will of course be the last CFW I will make and will be the best one yet. It will run PSN website and will have everything all the other CFW that can do. Now I am trying to fix the UMD Dumper problem by hacking into the psp mainframe and checking out some AIU files so it will support Umd Dumper. As soon as I am done with this, I will realese my new CFW in my website and there will also be donations. PLease donate to show the support for me. I have done so much for you. Later on, I will focuse my hacking abilities on PS3 and XBOX360. It feels so good to be back.

HELP! i dont know if iv’e got custom firmware, but it says that iv’e got 5.00 M33-6 and whenever i press the select button it comes up with the ‘M33 VSH Menu’.
Been trying to play .cso files through my memory stick but its not happening atm. I don’t know what i’m doing wrong. I put the .cso/.iso in my ISO folder. but when i go to the memory stick option in the game tab, its says there are no games.

i had CFW 5.00 m33 and none of the games worked (CSO & ISO)
so i downloaded the 5.00 m33-6 and did what you wrote it the readme file
i launched it and it showed a few words i could not read ( too fast ) and then it said “restarting in 6 seconds” and then the screen went black and nothing is happening but the MEM stick light is flashing
its been like that for a while now and im really worried
i really need help with that because im quite new to that
