PSP Homebrew - PSP Rubik's Cube v1.0

Rubik’s Cube. It’s that thing that exists in real life that you have to spin around itself. You win by lining up the colors. You must’ve heard about this thing from somebody who heard about it from somebody. Maybe you even saw one in the wild. Well, anyway, a fellow by the name of Exter has just cooked up a homebrew simulation of the dreaded Cube for your PSP, so you can start swiveling away to your heart’s content. So far, the game’s only been tested on 5.00 M33-6, but any homebrew-enabled firmware should be able to handle it. Here’s the scoop:

Controls:

  • R: Front move.
  • Sqaure: Left move.
  • Circle: Right move.
  • Triangle: Up move.
  • Cross: Down move.
  • Left: Rotate cube left.
  • Right: Rotate cube right.
  • Up: Rotate cube up.
  • Down: Rotate cube down.
  • L + R: Front Inverted move.
  • L + Sqaure: Left Inverted move.
  • L + Circle: Right Inverted move.
  • L + Triangle: Up Inverted move.
  • L + X: Down Inverted move.
  • L + Left: Rotate cube clockwise.
  • L + Right: Rotate cube counter-clockwise.
  • Select: Undo move.
  • Hold Start for 3 seconds to scramble the cube.
  • Hold L + Start for 3 seconds to solve the cube.
  • Use the analog stick to peek at the sides of the cube.

This one could be a lot of fun. A nifty thing to mess around with when you’re sitting on the toilet, nursing your regrets. We’ll keep you savvy with updates as they drop, so stay plugged in.

iR Shell v4.9 Is Now Here, So Begin Shouting Obscenities

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

iR Shell v4.9 released, PSN games support, TV mode

From cosmic underworld developer AhMan comes the newest iteration of his popular iR Shell homebrew application: iR Shell v4.9 is ready to rumble, and it’s been given a ton of new features this time around. Free up about 15 MB on your memstick, though. Check out the massive log:

New Features:

  • Support Playstation Network downloable games & demos. Pls note you need to set Umd Mode to M33 or NP9660 in iR Configurator in order to run PSN titles.
  • Added support to interlaced TV including component interlace & composite. You can configure the TV type via “TV Mode” option in iR Configurator. You should only use the iR Shell hotkey (Left Trigger + Right) to toggle between TV mode & PSP LCD. Don’t press PSP display button to switch TV mode. Games & homebrews launching from iR Shell will inherit the TV mode. Most games will run at full speed with default CPU clock. If you experience slow down for certain games, you can modify the CPU clock speed to 333MHz in iR Shell.
  • For slim PSP TV out, added an option to control the audio output to PSP speaker. This will be useful for docking station with TV out & charging capabilities. An option named “TV Out Cable Audio Output” in iR Configuator allows you to choose the audio to be outputed to TV, PSP, or following the active display. For the “Following active display”, the audio will come from the PSP when the LCD screen is active; when you switch the display to TV, the audio will be re-routed to TV.
  • Added an option to disable Memory Stick MagicGate support. This is meant to be used for PhotoFast microSD to MSPD adapter, or other similar non-MagicGate MS. By disabling the MagicGate support, you will no longer experience the annoying pause in XMB, such as turning on the PSP, switching off USB mode from XMB, quiting game/homebrew back to XMB, entering XMB video directory, etc. You shouldn’t disable the MagicGate Support if you’re using a genuine Sony or Sandisk MSPD.
  • Added connection timeout support for nethostfs. You can modify the “NetHost Conncetion Timeout” value in iR Configurator. Default is 10 seconds. Previously, the connection will block for 1 minute if the host doesn’t exist.
  • For the IR learning remote, the 30 seconds timeout has been removed. Instead, you can now press SELECT button to abort the learning process.
  • For the IR learning remote, added an option “R-Trigger + Select” to define number of iR Code segments to be captured. This is only useful for certain rare remotes that need consecutive code pairs to work. If you don’t know what it is, you probably don’t need it.
  • Added ability to have a user supplied font file for each skin. Name your font file as “font.fnt” and place it under your skin directory. You can also place a default font file under /IRSHELL/SYSTEM. This default font file will be used if no font file residing in the skin directory when you’re installing a skin. Pls note if there are no default font file in /IRSHELL/SYSTEM and skin directory, the system will use an internal font (the original iR Shell font). The user supplied font file needs to be 8×8 fixed width bitmap font. The font file must cover the standard ASCII character set 0×20 – 0x7F, ASCII code 0×00 – 0x1F are dummies & won’t be used in iR Shell.
  • Added a “Line Spacing” option in iR Configurator which allows to define the line spacing in all iR Shell views (DIR, APP, SAV & RDF). The line spacing unit is in number of pixels. Default is 2. Prior to this release, the line spacing was always 0.

Following bugs have been fixed:

  • The APP View will crash for certain homebrews.
  • When you edit an existing remote, it will always default to 40kHz. Now, the default carrier frequency will be the 1st learned IR code in the remote file.
  • The HOME button is not disabled when switching from APP/Game to iR Shell. Pressing the HOME button to quit while in iR Shell will hang the system.
  • Some ISOs using sceKernelLoadExec() failed to work under NP9660 mode.
  • PRXPlugin isn’t working when nethostfs MAX mode is active for Phat.

Installation Instructions:

  • Unzip the archive and place the content to the root directory of your memory stick. Make sure to apply the irspatch under ms0:/IRSHELL/PATCH directory for your cooresponding firmware version.

Check out the readme for complete rules, regulations, and a feeling of universal love from AhMan.

fx_powerspoof Plugin Bypasses Battery Percentage Check

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

There comes a time in a man’s life when he’s about to grab a game update, but then his pesky portable fun-screen starts yammering at him that his battery’s not full enough to get the installation going. Then, his eyes are all crusted over with yesterday’s dreams and tomorrow’s promises, and he’s half-drunk, stumbling around his cobwebby room, pleading desperately for release – or at least a charger or USB cable. Anything to plug in to the gat-dang thing. Crisis scenario. Okay, well, that’s why NoEffex cooked up this little plugin. It simply fools the PSP into thinking that the battery’s at 100% charge, so you can get around the requirement check. Here’s NoEffex’s release notes on the matter:

The main use for this is those games that install updates sony-style, and require 75% or so battery, when that is totally unnecessary and a waste of your time, because if you run out of battery – oh well, start over, nothing harmed, as it does not flash a thing.

How NOT to use: During flashing(specifically flash0) things that require 75% battery. Not a bright idea. You can, but if you screw up, not my problem .

How it works:

Patches

  1. scePowerGetBatteryPercent to always return 100 via jr ra->addiu $v0, $zero, 100
  2. scePowerIsLowBattery to always return 0 via jr ra->addu $v0, $zero, $zero
  3. scePowerIsBatteryExist to always return 1 via jr ra->addiu $v0, $zero, 0×0001

THEN Unloads itself, so it won’t make your kernel memory all lame and sliced up

Though fx_powerspoof doesn’t do anything to harm your battery, there could be a problem if you use it while working on flash0 (see “How NOT to use” note).

Gnarly.

PSPDictionary v2.1.0 Is Now Available For You To Make Love To

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

PSP Homebrew - PSPDictionary v2.1.0

We just got word of a fresh drop in the source code underworld, this time from Italian homebrewer Gefa: PSPDictionary v2.1.0 is now ready to go, and y’all should be a lot smarter because of it. New features in the release work to improve online translation functionality (inlcuding Engrish). Peep this changelog, fellas:

  • Improved the online translations. Now, to translate (online) a word you must first indicate the fists language and then the language of the translation. Moreover, the online translation is most fast
  • Solved a bug in the chronology

We’re big fans of homebrew dictionaries, because it’s up to us to keep our silly languages alive. Talking to each other has got to be our number one priority. I mean, if we weren’t yakking back and forth all day, what the heck else would we do? Draw? More from Gefa and PSPDictionary as it drops, so stay tuned.

Russians Steal Giant PSP Prop

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Just a little thing from the global wire to keep y’all giggling: Apparently, some nutty dudes in Russia decided to steal a four-foot PSP displayed in a street-stand advertisement. A pretty fancy shenanigan, if you ask us. What’s even more awesome is that they got it on video. Could be a marketing stunt or something, but whatever it is, it works for us. You’ll want to observe the footage for yourself in order to render your own judgment. Is it a set-up? Is it an international conspiracy?

Now, this isn’t the biggest PSP prop ever made. There’s one in NYC that’s tons bigger. Maybe someone could try to jack that one instead. Don’t go and get yourselves shot or anything. Actually, better just leave that big one right where it is. Leave it alone. Seriously, just go home and play with your regulation-sized, actually-working PSP. And watch this video here.

New Videos From Harvest Moon: Sugar Village And Everyone’s Wish

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Fans of the Harvest Moon series, be delighted: Here’s a few new videos from the forthcoming Harvest Moon: Sugar Village And Everyone’s Wish. Its developer, Marvelous Entertainment, released these so that you can have something to digest while they go about making last-minute tinkers. There’s an official trailer here, and a TV commercial, too.

The game, which is slated for a March 19th release in Japan, is originally titled Mokujou Monogatari: Sugar Mura to Minna no Negai. Tons of fun. If you didn’t know, the game’s basically about farming. If you’re into agrarian science, you’ll definitely want to read more about this title. Like, crops and stuff. Fields. More news here as it drops.

Here’s the changelog:

  • Analog Input Speed Issue Fixed.
  • Fixed Incorrect Exit Messages.
  • Fixed DeathCam & Death Screen. The Screen Fills Red When You Die Now.

In case you don’t know, Wolfenstein 3D is the classic FPS where you slaughter Nazis, pick up treasure, open doors, and eat turkey dinners. Boombastic v0.2 Is Now Available For You To Drool Over

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Boombastic v0.2

Boombastic v0.2 is a new morsel of homebrew entertainment that just dropped from underworld developer MoOm. The game is essentially a Bomberman clone, except that you’ll be driving a tank around. The tank’s got bombs and rockets. Graphics appear to be pretty smooth. There’s not much in the way of words from the game’s developer, so you’ll have to give this one a spin and make up your own mind.

Our guess is that it’ll do its job adequately of giving you something to do while your girlfriend’s in the shower. We don’t know much else about it, but we do know that the game features houses, trees, rocks, and explosions. We guess you could imagine that you’re somewhere in the desert, deep behind enemy lines. Maybe you’re on a different planet entirely. Or, the whole game could be a giant metaphor for 21st century pacifist disillusionment. Yep, that’s what it is. It’s a sociopolitical statement. That’s what it is. We’ve got you all figured out, MoOm. Anyway, grab the game here and start blowing stuff up right away.
