PSP homebrew - prxutility++ v.6.0

From underground developer PSPflashsystem comes prxutility++ v6.0, the latest iteration of his very useful plugin. This neat piece of software shows a ton of information about your PSP, and offers up a few utilities that’ll help you do some PSP-specific functions. Check out the full changelog here:

  1. Code reorganized and optimized
  2. Compatibility with firmware 4.01 M33, 5.00 M33 and 5.02 GEN
  3. Separation now prxutility + + prx into two:
  • One for xmb (VSH)
  • One for game
  1. New in the Information menu (on the battery …):
  • The menu has been slightly modified level available on the screen
  • The time remaining is shown otherwise façcon more understandable:
  • now there are a remaining time in hours and minutes remaining that lets you know precisely the remaining
  • Add the date in the form day / month / year
  • Addition of hours in the form (s): minute (s): second (s)
  • You can now know the current thread running
  • Added display your PSP firmware
  • Added model Pommel
  • The menu information can now be fully translated (in English (file: trad.en this in the “language” of prxutility + +) or French (file: trad.fr this in the “language” of prxutility + +))
  1. All keys prxutility + + are now customizable:
  • go to the files in the “configuration” of prxutility + +:
  • Or prxutility [VSH]. Ini to change the keys used by prxutility + + in xmb
  • Or prxutility [game]. Ini to change the keys used by prxutility + + in game
  • This allows the user greater ease of use in games, homebrews …
  1. Add a file explorer and folders that allows both games, homebrews in the xmb:
  • Consult both the memory stick, the flash0 the flash1 the Flash2 and Flash3 by simply pressing START
  • Delete files, folders (but if the files are present in a folder, it will not be deleted but will only files deleted).
  • However, the suppression is possible only in the memory stick to “protect” users who are not accustomed to handling flash0 :/…
  • Launch of eboot, prx, iso and cso
  1. Now when you access a menu of prxutility + + (but also for the file explorer) the keys xmb or homebrews, games are blocked to improve the comfort of navigation in the menu prxutility + +
  2. Prxutility + + 6.0 also allows you to start the recovery in full sail it ETDE xmb like the custom firmwares GEN, however:
  • To save the change: just select exit recovery menu and then press the keys prxutility + + to leave the recovery.
  • If you do not want to save the changes, simply press the keys prxutility + + to leave the recovery.
  • In both cases, the PSP rebootera then.
  • The recovery can not be launched in full or homebrew games
  1. Creating a history of access to the xmb and play, with homebrew:
  • Creation of a text file in the folder prxutility + + (named for lastaccessxmb.txt xmb access and access to lastaccessgame.txt in game)
  • which included the date and time of last access
  • While also creating a history in the “historyaccessxmb” for VSH and historyaccessgame “game for having access to all xmb and game (with date and time of access each time) (these files are located in the prxutility file + +)
  1. Possibility to erase the entire history (text + historical record) or the game xmb
  2. Add in the Configuration menu to release or (re) block keys (the xmb, games …) in access menus prxutility + + (except the file browser)
  3. Adding a 3-second delay before you can view the menus (to prevent bugs in the start of the PSP)
  4. Another important novelty of prxutility + + is the integration of a keyboard rather easy to use (by pressing L and R buttons by default, but modifiable see above).
  5. Abbreviation of certain information on the keyboard:
  • ENTER = before the text (to save a file or start the application whose path has been entered in the text box)
  • DEL = delete the last character of your sasi
  • Ms0: / = shortcut that enables direct “ms0: /” in the text box
  • SPACE space
  • TXT = toggles in the way of writing text (ie “Text Writer” see below)
  • APPL = toggles in launch mode of application (ie “Launch App” see below)
  • JUM = line
  • TYPE = switching between the mode of writing upper and lower case
  • The keyboard can be two major tasks:
  • The first (entitled “Text Writer”) allows you to write text directly from the xmb or in game, handy if you want to write a note to remember.
  • To save what you wrote, simply select JUM (= line) and write directly on the new space without the path where you want to register: there is a keyboard in the “ms0: /” which lets you select when to view directly into the area before
  1. “ms0: /” which makes your life easier ^ ^. Example: You can enter as a way: “ms0: / blabla.txt. After entering the path: START press ENTER or select the keyboard to   register
  2. The second (entitled “Lauch App”) lets you eboot, iso, cso prx and entering the road from the keyboard and pressing START or selecting ENTER
  3. In the “Text Writer”, the number of lines written is displayed and you are entitled to a maximum of 250 lines
  4. Added a new customizable from its memory stick without touching the flash0: system_plugin_bg.rco;
  • Reminder:
  • Tuto:
  • create a “theme” at the root of the memory stick;
  • put (s) file (s) you want (but belong to the files cited by customizable prxutility + +) in this case;
  • + + Prxutility checks for these files to launch the PSP in order to prevent bugs
  • If you are in 4.01 M33 you can use this feature, but not to the file “osk_plugin_500.rco” in the “theme” because it can lead to bugs (freeze the PSP)
  1. The bus speed has been increased and increased to 32 instead of 28 MHz in order to have a better record of its economy mode when the battery
  2. Now when HOLD is activated, the PSP is no longer in the battery saving mode using frozen (but still normal mode HOLD ie with only the buttons blocked).
  3. To switch to the battery saving mode with keys locked, simply put the analog stick down and activate the same time HOLD
  4. The history and the credentials of the Internet browser of the PSP were deleted in more appronfondis (prxutility + + delete cookies from now flash1: /)
  5. Fixed many bugs:
  • The bug that causes prolonged support of keys (including pes2009) was set
  • No problem slow to point out:)
  • The vshmenu appears now normally

Lots of terrific, nerdy details in there for you to chow down on. Check out the download right here. We’ll keep you informed of updates as they drop.

Dark AleX Releases ISO/UMD Speed Measurer

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Homebrew plugin for devs: measure speed of reading ISOs, UMDs

From the name that’s been on the tips of everyone’s tongues recently comes ISO/UMD Speed Measurer, another very handy utility for your PSP. The homebrew scene is getting bigger, badder, and smarter every day. This piece of hand-crafted code is a plugin that measures the speed at which the PSP reads ISOs and UMDs. DaX uses it to compare the speeds between drivers. The software only works on the PSP Slim, since it uses the Slim’s extended memory. Here’s a few words from Dark AleX on the new release:

Instructions: copy to root and run an iso/umd. The plugin will automatically log the umd driver read petitions in RAM. Whenever you want the log to end, press L+R in the game and the log will be written to ms0:/drivers.txt.

Caution: if you log an umd or an iso in normal mode (with umd required), DO NOT USE slim cache.

When comparing two drivers.txt, make sure you compare lines that are equal (except in time).

Don’t forget to disable the plugin when you have finished to use it, as it may break some homebrews.

Give it a spin, folks. Thanks to Dark AleX again for this nifty little drop.

Arrival Of Powder Release 110 Met With The Cheers Of Billions

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

PSP Homebrew - Powder release 110: UI improvements, clean-up

Powder, the PSP homebrew game developed by Jeff Lait, is now available as release 110. This is the tenth iteration of this classic homebrew title so far. Updates have been made to the UI, and some user-friendly graphical changes have been implemented. Support for the 4.3 gcc compiler has also been implemented. Check out the complete list of new features for this release:

  • A 65535 enum added for TILE_NAMES to placate the gcc 4.3 compiler. (Malte Helmert, Joe B, Magnate)
  • >string.h< is the correct header. (Joe B)
  • Clean scripts improved to clean more stuff so I don’t release with a broken support directory again. (Joe B)
  • Executable bit removed from CREDITS.TXT and LICENCE.TXT. (Malte Helmert)
  • Animated Trees no longer randomly generated in the dungeon, they are meant to only exist as a result of summons. (Kayvon, Gwazi01)
  • If Baezlb’b's heart grants life save, he will no longer have his life saved, and, more importantly, the heart will no longer be destroyed. (Stefan O’Rear)
  • When you convert a flesh golem into a stone golem it will no longer report both names. (Lim-Dul)
  • You stop over concerns of your safety.” now has an r in concerns. (eilu)
  • Spells you don’t know now show up greyscale in the action bar. Similarly, if you can’t cast it due to not enough mana, it is greyed out proportionaly to how much mana is needed.
  • Inventory background is coloured according to your knowledge of the item, making it easier to separate out cursed/holy/regular. This also distinguishes between items you have tried on (so you know they are not cursed) vs ones you haven’t tried. (Irashtar)
  • You can mark items as favorite. This causes them to get a yellow background in the inventory and always be sorted first. (Pikadude No. 1)
  • Weapons have the e in them when you forget the dual wield skill. (Joe B)
  • Text for animate forest spell and creature tweaked to better align with the normal English speaker’s concept of grammar.
  • Did I mention I finished a book, Menoetius? I did? Well, I’ll just bury a reference in this wall of text anyways.
  • The buildall.sh script for Linux has been updated to try and make it more ebuild compatible thanks to work by Zasenko Sergey. I may have misread his patch, however, so problems in this version are likely my fault.

Thanks to Jeff Lait, homebrew gamers have a fun, nerdy, old-school dungeon crawler to space them out for hours on end. Mad props to the game’s developer. Note that this game is also available for the Wii. Check out the download package here, and starting getting awesome right away.

PSXChecker v1.0 Now Available For PSP

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

PSP homebrew - PSXChecker v1.0

Homebrew developer Xager has released PSXChecker v1.0. Although the name is little confusing (it doesn’t have anything to do with the PlayStation One), the software is still a very handle utility for the PSP. It’s designed as a diagnostic tool for the PSP that can test and comment on system routines of the PSP. It can confirm that all of the buttons are working, can test the left and right audio channels, and makes attempts to repair stuck pixels. This application could really come in handy someday, and we give props to Xager for his contribution.

According to Xager, he’s still got a few things he’d like to add to the software:

  • Graphical menu, not likely but still possible.
  • Change sound to “left channel, right channel”
  • More tests?
  • Possibility to test a second joystick?
  • Eastereggs?
  • Fullscreen TV-out, will look into it for 1.1

Sounds great, and we’re looking forward to the next release. For now, check out the download package for PSXChecker v1.0 and see what you think. Stay tuned here for more updates to this juicy homebrew fruit as they drop.

Geometry Wars Portable v0.7 Homebrew Drops

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Geometry Wars Portable v0.7From developer Victory Studio comes a clone of the game Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. The original game was released in the Xbox Arcade and became one of its most popular downloads of all time. 39% of everyone who tried the demo from Xbox Arcade also purchased it. That’s very revealing about this game’s addictive gameplay. Let’s see if the clone can live up to the high precedent set by the original commercial title.

This is a careful, first release, and might be a little buggy or avoid some of the gameplay featured found in the original game, which was developed by Bizaare Creations.

Victory Studio also reports that it hasn’t tested Geometry Wars Portable v0.7 on any CFW except for 3.71 M33. The man behind Victory Studio requests that first testers of the software send reports regarding compatibilities on other firmwares. For now, grab the download package and take the game for a spin. We’ll bring you updates from Victory Studio as they drop.

Warcraft 2D PSP v1.0 Beta Homebrew Is Now Available

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

PSP homebrew game: Warcraft 2D PSP 1.0 Beta

Get pumped up for this one. Fans of the classic game Warcraft will certainly appreciate the hard work and dedication that went into Warcraft 2D PSP v1.0 Beta. This is a significant homebrew package from a remarkable team of underworld developers. The team includes UnlimitedX, Darksymphonie, Sox, and Azog, and they’ve put out a call for more developers to join the team. The Warcraft 2D PSP game is written in LUA, so if you’re code-savvy, and familiar with LUA specifically, this is a great opportunity to get in on a very progressive collaboration.

Like what was done with Counter-Strike, this is a homebrew import of a classic game that avoids some of the features of the original, but offers nonetheless a ton of exciting gameplay, and should be engrossing in its own right. Here’s the feature list, as found in the developers’ notes:

  • The game is played in real time, you’re a single character
  • The game is played in 2D
  • You have the choice between 2 teams: Orcs and Humans
  • The game is playable online therefore only player against player, an artificial intelligence may be present in a new version
  • Different classes of people will surely be added in a new version
  • The game is now in English
  • A system of experience points and levels is available.
  • If the game appeals to many people, developers will be thoroughly inside and create a persistent universe with a server.

So, grab the download here and get started busting up some orcs and humans right away. Stay tuned for more updates to Warcraft 2D PSP as they drop. Thanks to the developers again for their creativity and initiative with this project.

Final Release of Unofficial Picodrive 1.35b R (Rewind Mod) Is Here

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Final release: Unofficial Picodrive 1.35b R (Rewind Mod)

The mod created by Davex of notaz’s PicoDrive emulator Unofficial Picodrive was released today. Unofficial Picodrive 1.35b R (Rewind Mod) is listed as the final release. Nothing too huge in this latest drop, but a few adjustments have been made since the previous version. This much-hailed piece of homebrew is an emulator for the Sega Genesis and Sega CD game systems. Here’s the short changelog:

Now you can remap the rewind key (default RTRIGGER)
Allows you configure rewind parameters in the new “Rewind” menu, in order to have more rewind time or more smooth rewind.

Thanks to Davex for taking the initiative on the mod project, and thanks to notaz for the emulator’s core development. Another good collaboration from the PSP underground.
