Sony Press Release Announces 20 Million Registered PSN Accounts

Sony announced that over 20 million PlayStation Network accounts have been registered across the globe over the two years and three months that the network has been live. The 20 million mark represents approximately three million accounts more than registered Xbox Live accounts, which is hovering just over 17 million. This news comes fresh on the heels of reports that Xbox Live revenues are standing at nearly five times the revenues of the PlayStation network.

The PlayStation Network is completely free to register on, access, utilize, and download from. Xbox Live subscriptions, on the other hand, can cost as much as $50 per year.

The PlayStation Network first launched on November 11th, 2006. The PSN includes users of both the PS3 and the PlayStation Portable.
