MemorizeME PSP Sets Your Brain On Fire

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

PSP homebrew - MemorizeME PSP

The popular DS homebrew title, MemorizeME, has been delivered onto Sony’s small screen, courtesy of the programmer known as roe-ur-boat (is that a reference to salmon eggs?). MemorizeME is a cute, straightforward memory exerciser that’ll warrant at least seventeen minutes of your attention – and possibly a few dozen hours.

In MemorizeME, the player must remember patterns that appear on a four-by-four grid and then mentally regurgitate them in order to advance. In the beginning, only a few of the blocks have patterns; however, moving through the game will ensure that the entire grid gets filled up. The graphics are smooth and pleasing to the eye, and we find the cool blues and whites to be a relaxing accompaniment to a game that could potentially get a little stressful. Thanks again to roe-ur-boat for the delivery, and we’ll be checking it out as soon as we’ve got a spare second. Grab the download package here to give it a spin on your own.

Fate/Unlimited Codes To Arrive On The PSP In Japan

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Fate/Unlimited Codes coming to the PSP

The popular PS2 fighting game, Fate/Unlimited Codes, is scheduled for release on the PSP under the title Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable. For now, the release is slated only for Japan – no word has leaked yet about its arrival in other global territories.

Its developer, Capcom, is a classic purveyor of fighting games, so it certainly has the experience to churn out cutting-edge titles in that particularly aggressive and heart-racing genre. It’s the mastermind behind precedent-setting fighting games such as Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom, and is also the force behind platform classics such as Mega Man.

The new version of Fate/Unlimited Codes is slated to contain features previously unseen in the PS2 counterpart. A more finely tuned battle system will ensure even smoother, more satisfying gameplay. A brand new multiplayer mode will expand the scope of its playability, and some characters will sport brand new outfits. There’s even at least one more special move included in Portable release. We can expect Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable to reach Japan by June of this year.

“DRUMER” Theme For The PSP Shows Off Some Gnarly Percussion

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Drumer PSP Theme

A new drumming-based theme for the PSP is now available, and, according to its description, it’s coupled with some great guitar music. Fans of paradiddles, drum rolls, rim shots, breakdowns, speed metal, and rhythm-induced trances will appreciate this terrific theme that celebrates what some hail as the most important instrument in a rock band.

Here’s a few fast facts, in case you’ve never had the glorious opportunity to bang on a thing with a stick: A drum is a member of the percussion group and is classified as a “membranophone.” Drums can be played with the hands, or with one or a pair of sticks. Not just used in music making, drums can have a symbolic or ceremonial function, and are often used in spiritual rituals.

Grab the theme pack here and load it up for yourselves. Just follow this simple steps to get started:

  • Place theme.p3t file in X:/PSP/THEME/ folder and select theme from XMB->Settings->Themes
  • X is your psp USB or PSP media card
  • Or Download Only theme file directly from your PSP internet browser.

Popular Mystery Series To Hit The Small Screen This June

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Marvelous to bring Nishimura Kyotaro Travel Mystery to PSP

Nishimura Kyotara Travel Mystery, a game based on the famous Japanese travel mystery series by novelist Kotara Nishimura, will arrive for the PlayStation Portable courtesy of Marvelous Entertainment. A brand new story underlies the forthcoming game, translated from the Japanese at the “bow gun murder.”

According to reports, the plot unfolds during the late summer as a victim is found dead holding on to some enigmatic pictures of swimwear. More bizarre mysteries are encountered as the game progresses. Check out some of the screenshots for a Japanese-only view of the train-based mystery game. As of now, we don’t have any evidence that the game is scheduled for a release in territories outside of Japan. Nevertheless, we’re enthusiasts of story-based narrative games, and look forward to more titles of this kind for the PSP.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G Hits Three Million Mark In Japan

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G ships over 3 million units in Japan

Capcom’s hit title Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, also known as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, has shipped over 3,000,000 units in Japan. The third installment in the PSP Monster Hunter series was launched on March 27, 2008 in Japan. It won the Double Platinum Prize at the 2008 PlayStation Awards, meaning that the game sold somewhere between two and three million units at the time.

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G sold 690,000 copies on its first day on the shelves and moved 1.5 million titles by the end of its first week. The Capcom US blog even made a coy statement that the game lowered Japan’s national productivity during the day.

Undoubtedly, the release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G in other global turfs (including the U.S. and Europe) will take its total sales to new heights. We’re excited for a forthcoming drop of the game stateside, and can’t wait to take it for a spin ourselves.

Noby Noby Boy For PS3 Redefines The Notion Of A Game

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Just because this forthcoming title is so fascinating, we’re throwing it up to your attention, despite its release being exclusively for the PS3. Its own creators can’t really put into words what the nature of the game is – Noby Noby Boy is sort of an abstract, participation-based persistent Universe whose purpose is to house its ever-growing protagonists, known as Boy and Girl. Perhaps its closest analog would be Katmari Damacy, which was created by the same developer, Keita Takahashi of Namco Bandai.

In Noby Noby Boy, players take control of a Lego-man like, stretchable character, who grows as it’s pulled around via the two analog sticks. Players score points based on how much they stretch Boy. As Boy grows in size, its lengths are uploaded to a persistent character, known as Girl. Girl grows along with all of the Boys in the Universe. It starts on the planet Earth, then stretches to the moon, and then expands out into the Solar System, unlocking new environments for users to explore as it gets bigger.

Noby Noby boy will be available for download on the PSN starting this Thursday, January 19th.
