Great news for those following the PlayStation market over in Europe: Sales milestones have been reached by both the PS3 and the PSP, making 2 million units sold and 3 million units sold, respectively. Industry analysts point to Killzone 2 as helping the PS3 to achieve its new marks. Says Ray Macguire of the recent sales and of Killzone 2,
“This is a series with a lot more stories to tell. Everyone is reporting really good sales of Killzone 2. We’ve seen not just a really good day one – but also for the game to be a good solid seller all the way through. We’ve got good bundles out there with hardware and software and that has picked up nicely according to our numbers…It certainly has helped drive hardware I think there were a lot of people out there who wanted something which really showed the power of PlayStation 3 – and now they see it it’s a reason for them to get on board.”
Macguire is convinced that publishers have finally “woken up” to the prospect of the PS3 as a real market dominator, which underlies our hope that the rest of 2009 and all of 2010 are chart-topping years for the console. We’re certainly rooting for the system, whose hardware is perhaps the most capable of all the consoles on the market.
