For the week ending March 2, the Nintendo DS edged out both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable for units sold. That success is attributable to the appearance of the DSi in Japan, whose units make up the majority of the 47,601 listed units sold for the Nintendo DS. Wii sales are down, however, and the Xbox 360 is lagging significantly. Both consoles are selling well behind the DS, the PS3, and the PSP.
Sony is the overall winner this week, selling a combined total of 77,200 hardware units. The popularity of the PS3 this week is somewhat attributable to the release of Yakuza 3, which arrived on the software charts at number one. Nintendo reached 65,500 combined units, and Microsoft saw just 11,795 (though it’s got only one entry on the chart – the Xbox 360). Here’s the full list:
- Nintendo DS: 47,601
- PlayStation 3: 36,512
- PlayStation Portable: 35,588
- Nintendo Wii: 17,876
- Xbox 360: 11,795
- PlayStation 2: 5099
