Now, folks, please consider the following to be entirely speculative. In fact, file it under “shamefaced rumors” and nowhere else for just now, although the information appears to have come from a source of considerable standing and respect in the homebrew underground. Those propagating the rumor suggest that it’s worth taking seriously.
So: Rumor has it that a new console is either in development or on its way to production that utilizes a CPU either exactly the same or in the same family as the one driving the Sony PlayStation Portable. Actually, it’s said that the console already runs some emulators for the PSP, such as exophases GPSP. Whether or not the rumored console will play most PSP homebrew is also entirely speculative at this point – a rumor on top of a rumor – although we’re waiting anxiously for any kind of confirmation, such as photographs or screenshots.
The best part about this news is that if it’s true, the PSP homebrew scene will live on in strength despite fears of Sony blocking the use and development of homebrew for the PSP.
