AsterSpace3D Arrives For Your PSP

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

PSP homebrew - asterSpace3D

Whew! It sure has been a busy month for homebrew games and applications, what with the NeoFlash competition and all. Next up and fresh out of the oven is a brand new game from the curiously named underground programming pariah, pspflashsystem. AsterSpace3D appears to be a space-based arcade number, but the focus is on survival and evasion instead of shooting. You’ll be responsible for guiding a craft through asteroid fields in order to return safely to your home planet. Control is centered around either the analog stick or the D-Pad.

We didn’t get a changelog or any release notes for this title, so your best bet is simply to pick up the download package right here and take this puppy for a spin around the block. AsterSpace3D is certain to test your finer reflexes, so make sure that you’re ready to put out some quick reaction time. Mad props to pspflashsystem for grinding this one out, and we look forward to subsequent updates.

Blast from the past: Paintball 2D v1.5

After appearing a few years ago, a program called 2D Paintball, which was coded by a brew technician by the name of Mr. Game, has returned with a significant update. This time, the savvy code cabalist, bboyjcm, is the current author, having restarted the project where Mr. Game left off. Paintball 2D v1.5 offers up new maps and brand-new features that fans of the game will immediately embrace. Here’s a few words from bboyjcm and the new changelog:

“It’s a normal top view paintball game. The 2 players shoot at each other. Each hit can equal 1 or 2 points. That depends if you got a good hit on the other player. Once someone gets to 10 then the game is over.”

Changelog:

Game Menus:

  • Main Menu
  • Map Selection Menu
  • End Of The Game Menu

5 Maps In Total

  • The old one
  • 4 New

New GFX

  • Eboot Background
  • Player Models With Transperency

Maps

  • Compatible With Both PSP Phat & PSP Slim
  • Readme & Changelog files are now included

Thanks a lot to bboyjcm for taking the lead on moving this project forward, and much respect to Mr. Game for the original concept and programming.

Lockdown Pack 2 Evolves Out Of The Primordial Ooze

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Secure your PSP: Lockdown Pack 2

The much-acclaimed homebrew technician and innovator, Torch, has released a brand-new package that comprises a number of his homebrew projects to-date. Torch has previously released a pack of his ‘brew, and the new one appears very similar to the first. Essentially, Torch has updated his Lockdown XMB program and packaged it with the unchanged versions of Lockdown and Lockdown In-Game.

The three programs in the pack work to protect your PSP from intruders. Lockdown protects the PlayStation Portable with a password lock; Lockdown In-Game protects games while in suspended mode; and there’s the PSP Slim-only security program, Lockdown XMB Style, which utilizes the XMB wave as its background. Here’s the changelog from the developer:

Lockdown Pack 2 changelog:

  • Lockdown XMB Style updated to v4.1

  1. Fixed a critical bug where a new installation of Lockdown XMB Style would hang after entering a new password for the first time.
  • Lockdown unchanged at v4.0
  • Lockdown In-Game unchanged at v2.0

Thanks again to Torch for these great security programs.

Wagic 0.5.1 Offers Ton Of New Cards, New Bugfixes

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Wagic 0.5.1

One of our favorite homebrew titles ever, Wagic (also known as Wagic: The Homebrew), has been updated. The talented and diligent underground developer, Walolo, has just released Wagic 0.5.1. Although the developer doesn’t specifically name the game upon which Wagic is based, fans of the CCG genre will immediately note the similarities.

In Wagic, players can build their own decks of cards by way of the game’s built-in Deck Editor. There’s a credits system in place that allows players to access over 1,300 unique cards. Players can even add their own graphics for the cards.

The new version of Wagic offers more than 300 new cards since the last release. Additionally, Walolo tweaked the AI to make it even more formidable and added a brand new difficulty mode. He’s also ironed a bunch of bugs in the cards. We’ll say it again: This is a great piece of ‘brew. If you haven’t already had the pleasure, make sure you jump in on this version and grab the download package here. To newcomers of the game, there may be a significant learning curve (although it won’t take too long to get a hang of it); more experienced players can jump right into the game with virtually no questions asked.

Pangaya: Fantasy Golf Takes A Swing At PSP

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Pangaya: Fantasy Golf Takes A Swing At The PSP

There is another reason to use our card as Tomy announces the release of Pangaya: Fantasy Golf for PSP this summer.  Aside from golf, one of the main attractions of Pangya is playing out your characters in all sorts of freaky accessories.  Pangaya: Fantasy Golf PSP version features thousands of unlockable accessories, clothes, and pieces of equipment to help build your very own golfer at pangaya.  Who wouldn’t love to play a golf tournament, especially if the tournament will be played by your own fantasy player?

This game features several single player modes, from story mode to tournaments, along with single and team multiplayer tournaments for up to 8 players.  Based on the massively multiplayer golfing game Pangya, developer Ntreev brings the cutesy golf acton to the small screen, following relatively successful outings on the Nintendo Wii as Super Swing Golf 1 & 2.

The game features the nine fantasy golf courses of Pangya Island, 18 adorable little golfers, and more customization options than you can shake a 9-iron at.

Unleash the golfer inside you!

Sony PSP 3G Specs – Rumored

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Sony PSP 3G Specs: Rumored

There is a rumor that is coming from NeoGAF about the new generation of PSP called Play Station Portable 3g or PSP 3g.  Allegedly, it will get 3G support across the globe and will hit USA and Japan during April, 2009.

Unlike previous PSP models, PSP 3g will have a touch screen as well as an UMTS support, Bluetooth and a microphone. This only means that you will be able to use it easily as a normal mobile phone.

With its ultra compact size and design it will be not much bigger than an iPhone but it will offer you the highest gaming comfort.  There won’t be any UMD-drive any more but instead a keyboard with a slide mechanism.   But of course, you will be able to download all the games from the PSN Store with the PSP 3G.  Cooperating with Sony Ericsson, we will be able to deliver the PSP 3G in the USA and Japan by the end of April 2009. First pictures will follow.

Reimagining a new PSP like the PSP 3g is like an Iphone meets Sony PSP console.  Lets wait and see if Sony can make our Photoshop imagination into reality.

libLZR v0.11 Offers A Great Library For Developers

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

PSP homebrew - libLZR v0.11

The backyard brew technician, BenHur, has just released a new library for PSP homebrew developers. LibLZR v0.11 is an open source library with features to decompress and encode LZR-compressed data. LZR-compressed data is often used in PSP firmware resource files. BenHur, the mastermind behind the popular Intrafont, has this to say about his new application:

  • The library de- and encodes LZR streams (as used in the Sony PSP firmware).
  • Decompression results should be identical to Sonys internal decompression algorithm. Please report incompatible streams to benhur(at)alpenjodel(dot)de.
  • Compression currently does not actually compress the data, but only produces a valid LZR stream. Future versions of this library might implement real compression.

And, here’s your changelog for this first release:

  • bug fixed where certain LZR streams were not decompressed correctly
  • potential bug fixed that could prevent correct decompression of certain LZR streams
  • initial public release

Thanks to BenHur for his contributions to the development scene. His resources are highly valued among the homebrew community.
