And, here’s the control list:

Controls:

  • X – jump
  • directional buttons – move
  • [] – shoot

PSPReversi v1.0 Arrives At Breakneck Speed

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

PSP homebrew - PSPReversi v1.0

The ultra-dedicated underground programmer, jojojoris, has just released a new version of his PSPReversi game for the PlayStation Portable. The demo version arrived for the first time mere hours ago, so clearly the developer has been hard at work bringing the game up to a full release version.

Again, Reversi is a game played on an 8 x 8 grid. A player’s objective is to occupy the most space on the board with his or her pieces at the end of the game. Players must surround lines of his or her opponent’s pieces in order to “flip” them to his or her color. The controls are easy, and players can view the instructions in-game by hitting START.

Grab the download package here to install and try out the first full version of this nifty little classic game.

Ragdoll Cannon v1.8 Explodes Into The Limelight

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Ragdoll Cannon v1.8

Fresh out of the homebrew cauldron is an entertaining little game based on a Flash application of the same name. Ragdoll Cannon v1.8 was developed by walar, a PSP philosopher based out of France. The player has to hit targets with a little ragdoll dude in as few tries as possible. Players can unlock new levels in campaign mode. Also, walar included a way to create new levels, but budding architects will have to have a bit of knowledge of Lua. Here’s the official write-up from the developer:

Project description:

Shoot the ragdoll guy from the cannon.

Hit the target to go to the next level.

Try to make as little shots as possible, like in golf.

When new levels are unlock in campaign mode, you can replay them in “play” mode.

Levels are lua scripts so new levels can be make easier

How to Play:

DOWN & UP —> angle of the cannon

RIGHT & LEFT –> force of the cannon

CROSS ——-> Shot

TRIANGLE ——-> Remove the Ragdolls

START ——-> Pause Menu

SELECT ——-> Main Menu

Credits:

Johnny-K (“Ragdoll cannon” (flash game))

Dr. Watson (Jas Game Engine ++ (JGE++))

Scott Lembcke (Chipmunk Physics engine)

Mk2K (Port of Chipmunk for PSP)

Thanks to walar for this nifty little piece of ‘brew.

EarthInvasion v1.0 Teleports In

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

PSP homebrew game: EarthInvasion v1

The infamous backyard codebringer, basfreak, has released a new game for the PlayStation Portable. In EarthInvasion v1.0, you have to let yourself be abducted by aliens in a UFO. Here’s what the developer says in his release notes:

“So what you have to do is get in the UFO by pressing the UP button. But if you’re out of lives you will get a game over screen. You can lose lives by walking against aliens (blue circles). If the taxi takes you you will have godmode till you’re at the end of the screen. Moving is done with the LEFT and RIGHT buttons and you can jump with the X button.”

Sounds pretty straightforward to us – we’ll get started getting beamed up right away. Get the download package right here to check out the game in its first version. Installation is easy, too: Just drop the EarthInvasion folder into your “game” directory and play away.

PSPReversi Demo Offers Up A Classic Gameplay Experience

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

PSPReversi Demo

The masterful homebrew man-at-arms, jojoris, has released a home-cooked version of the game of Reversi, which he calls PSPReversi. The game is still just a demo, and according to the developer, its code was laid out in just a single day. Here’s the simple control list:

  • START-show instructions
  • – remove dot
  • X – Place white dot
  • [] – Place black dot

Reversi, also known as Othello, was invented in 1883 by Lewis Waterman, an Englishman. The goal of the game is for a player to have a majority of the pieces on the board be in his or her color, by flipping as many of an opponent’s pieces to his or her color as possible. Pieces are flipped by placing a piece at each end of any lines of consecutive pieces. Lines of pieces can be laid out on a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal axis.

Thanks to jojoris for this simple but engaging game.

PSP homebrew - FBA4PSP V12.4.0

The homebrew technician, Ibicelyne, returns with an update for his FBA4PSP emulator application. This is a homebrew program that emulates MC680000/Z80-based arcade games so that we can enjoy them once again on the comfort of our very own PlayStation Portables. Here’s the changelog for the current version:

  • Kov2p and kov2p205 are well supported.
  • Kov2 etc. games state saving is supported
  • You can configure screen size in ini file.
  • A few other game drivers are added without test.

Here are the release notes from Ibicelyne for v12.4.0:

  • martmast could not work due to arm emulation issue. Fixed in new driver. However, the new driver is too slow. So I didn’t include it into this build
  • PGM game texture is incorrect somewhere.
  • Olds100a can not work.

Thanks again to the developer for his diligent work on this project, and for making a bunch of great arcade titles playable on the small screen.
