Java-Based PSP Emulator For PC: JPCSP v0.02 Revision 1021

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

JPCSP v0.02 revision 1021

Still a work in progress, the JPCSP Java-based PSP emulator for the PC gets an update from Shadow and the gang once more. Though it’s yet another minor bug fix update, it’s still progress – which is always a good thing. This version carries two new improvements, so you guys might want to update your old versions and give this a spin.

Changelog:

  • sceSasCore: fixed problem due to multi-threaded access (now synchronized methods)
  • sceAudio: play the audio output larger than the AudioLine buffer size in a background thread (analog to sceSasCore). This should improve the audio output for large sound data.

Tekken 6 PSP Is Official, First Screenshots

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Tekken 6

It’s official guys. PlayStation Portable users will be getting an iron fist straight up their you-know-whats when Tekken 6 hits the PSP, which will be right alongside the game’s PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. Namco Bandai is shooting for a Q4 launch for the home console versions but we don’t have a clear-cut release date yet.

The PSP version will feature additional content, stages, and items as well as an ad-hoc multiplayer mode using “original” and “fan favorite” characters. It’ll also have a “Ghost” infrastructure mode that will let players upload their characters’ data and download that of others.

Here are a few screenshots for you to enjoy!

Demo video of PSP 5.03 HEN exploit in action

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Be patient, everyone. Davee’s HEN Kernel exploit will eventually arrive given time. To tide over that wait, here’s a little video demonstrating the 5.03 HEN in action. This one was posted by Granite, one of the beta testers of Davee (Team Typhoon).

Here’s his little note about the video (check out that last line – we still have something to expect for later!):

This is a demo of the 5.03 firmware running the tiff exploit and booting into a HEN environment on a PSP 2003 (3000 Support also) on 5.03 Official Firmware. This proves that the code survives a reboot and the system software and MAC address can be changed. This is something that only can be done with a kernel exploit. A video launching homebrew will be posted later.

Rumor: New UMD-Less PSP Hardware to Launch At E3, Christened “PSP Go!”

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

PSP

We’ve heard rumblings of a new PSP sans UMD in the past, and sources have now confirmed the rumor and added a date of announcement: E3, merely a month away.

1Up’s sources claim the new PSP hardware will adopt the moniker “PSP Go!,” and yes, that exclamation mark is correct. They further claim the PSP Go! will boast 8GB or 16GB of internal storage, because the handheld will be doing away with Sony’s UMD format in favor of downloadable games. More details:

  • There will not be an added joystick (sorry shooter fans), but the controls will slide out from under the screen (see the mockup above)
  • It will launch in September in Japan and late October or early November in the States
  • The system will be unveiled at E3, which falls June 2-4 of this year

As always, Sony refuses to comment on these rumors, but they’re not implausible, seeing as how they line up so nicely with what we’ve heard before.

Wagic the Homebrew v0.6.0 Released

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Wagic the Homebrew V 0.6.0

Developer WilLoW returns with quite a hefty changelog for “Wagic the Homebrew.”  WilLoW – Wagic is an heroic fantasy trading card game in which you play as a sorcerer against the AI. It is inspired by the rules of a famous card game that shalt not be named, because it would then be free advertising for Wizards of the Coast and apparently they don’t like that.

V0.6.0 changes and download…

  • New card: Clone! (thanks gdspsp!)
  • New game mode: Momir Basic! Play against the AI with more than 800 creatures in a mix of random fun and strategy! I’ll explain later on this blog (http://wololo.net/wagic) how to unlock this extra mode
  • More than 300 new cards, including cards from the sets Mercadian Masques, Mirrodin, Odyssey, but also in other sets (10th edition, Revised, Shadowmoor, Eventide, Shards of Alara, Conflux, Ice Age, Invasion, Lorwyn, Mirage, Portal, Tempest…). Wagic now allows you to play with more than 1600 cards! (many thanks Dr.Solomat and leungclj!)
  • Improved memory usage for card textures (For those interested, JGE now allows you to load jpeg files in 5551 while being in 8888 memory mode)
  • New “cache size” option. Slim owners might want to try to push it up to 60, while Phat owners probably need to stay below 20. Increasing the cache size while improve game speed if you play with card pictures, but might increase the risks of crashes. Try to find the value that best suits your needs.
  • Improved stability. The game has been reported to crash less than version 0.5.1
  • New parser keywords: mustattack, cantattack, cantblock, may, copy. I will update the “create your own cards” page soon.
  • New alternate deck format (card names rather than their id), should make it easier to create your own decks (for yourself or the AI) with a text editor.
  • The test suite now allows card names rather than their id, makes it easier to write tests.
  • Small shop improvements, to make it easier to buy cards and boosters
  • Victory is becoming more exciting than before, as you get bonus credits depending on how well you beat your opponent.
  • 5 new AI decks (thanks Abrasax)
  • Bug fixes for the following cards: Arcanis the omnipotent, Elvish Piper, Fastbond, Fountain of youth, Nevinyrral’s Disk,Spirit Link, …
  • Other bug fixes related to the following: lifelink, more than 100 cards in deck, more than 64 abilities in play, nightmare with 0/0 that doesn’t go to graveyard when it comes into play, selling cards in deck editor…

  • Create and access sub-folders for music, videos and photos
  • Internet search for games directly from the XMB
  • Free trial for two Trend Micro Internet security services

The firmware update can be downloaded by using the Network Update feature on your PSP or by clicking here. Get it while it’s hot. Or not. If you wanna stick to homebrew, you might want to put off updating until we hear more about Davee’s upcoming HEN.
