NPD recently published its routine report of United States video game sales and, unfortunately, it seems that the PlayStation Portable is buried by its major competing consoles. We’re looking at Resident Evil 5 firmly set at number one, followed by Pokemon Platinum for the DS about 130,000 units behind. The PSP does not appear in the top ten at all. Have a gander for yourselves:
- Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, Xbox 360) – 938,00
- Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo, DS) – 805,000
- Halo War (Microsoft, Xbox 360) – 639,000
- Resident Evil 5 (Capcom, PS3) – 585,000
- Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) – 541,000
- MLB ‘09: The Show (Sony, PS3) – 305,000
- Killzone 2 (Sony, PS3) – 296,000
- Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) – 281,000
- Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) – 278,000
- Major League Baseball 2K9 (Take 2, Xbox 360) – 205,000
It’s likely we won’t see a major PSP contender on the chart until the release of the next wave of games which Sony has promised for this year. Let’s keep our fingers crossed; in the meantime, the PSP still has the best underground homebrew scene, so you can walk mightily still, and with purpose. And with gusto. And resolve. Walk forth.

You know, in all fairness, comparing PSP games to these titles is a ridiculous concept. These games are all major home console games. The only one that doesn’t fit this mode is Pokemon Platinum, but that’s a 13+ year long going franchise. The PSP doesn’t really have anything like that. :S And in the US, home consoles are king.
Hey buddy. Told my friends about your blog. Thanks for the nice read.
