PSPLBreakout2 Finds Its Way To Earth

PSP homebrew: PSPLBreakout2

Emerging steaming hot from the cauldron is a terrific little piece of homebrew called PSPLBreakout2, and, like its name wholeheartedly suggests, it’s a rendition of Breakout: That game with all the little bricks up top, the paddle on the bottom, and a ball bouncing back and forth in between. Its programmer, the undeniably talented Michael Speck, who masquerades in the tumultuous homebrew underworld as Gandji, has included a bunch of cool power-ups and dangerous power-downs to make the game a little more interesting. Now, most Breakout clones include prize drops, so it’s up to the brewer to make them uniquely interesting.

In PSPLBreakout2, you’ll be blasting through layered brick structures as always, and you’ll be scrambling to catch happy, hopeful green bonus power-ups. At the same time, you’ll be trying your darndest to avoid the angry, evil red power-downs. You’ll also be given the opportunity to take chances with mysterious question-mark drops, which promise treasures (or trifles) galore.

That’s the run-down. Grab the download package right here to give this one a spin, and decide for yourselves: Is this the definitive homebrew breakout clone of the millennium?

Nintendo: Avoid Secondhand Games

Nintendo: Used games aren't in the consumers best interests

Speaking on behalf of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that the company believes used video game sales are not in the best interest of consumers, who prefer, according to his statement, brand new products. He also claimed that sales of secondhand products in other entertainment industries has been unsuccessful.

Speaking to Venture Beat, Fils-Aime said that “We have products that consumers want to hold onto. They want to play all of the levels of a Zelda game and unlock all of the levels. A game like Personal Trainer Cooking has a long life. Describe another form of entertainment that has a vibrant used goods market. Used books have never taken off. You don’t see businesses selling used music CDs or used DVDs. Why? The consumer likes having a brand-new experience and reliving it over and over again. If you create the right type of experience, that also happens in videogames.”

Hmm.

Fils-Aime continued on, insisting that “we just think it’s a bad idea. The one retailer that has a substantial business in this has figured out a way that is effective for the consumer. That’s tough for other retailers experimenting with this, in part because their employees don’t have the expertise in this market.”

Now, we’re not exactly sure to which retailer specifically he’s referring, but we’re pretty sure that a substantial amount of our video gaming pleasure has come to us in the form of used, traded, or otherwise secondhand games. We appreciate Mr. Fils-Aime’s concern for the integrity of his industry, but look here, Reggie: There ain’t nothing wrong with a hand-me-down.

PSP Flight v1.0.1 Is A Simple Simulator For PSP

PSP Flight : A Flight Simulator for PSP v1.0.1

Just in from the indefatigable backyard brewer, Zx81, is a simple flight simulator game for your PlayStation Portable that should prove to be a solid foundation for an exciting project. At this point in the development, Zx81 tells us that much of the functionality is still to come. You can, however, take off in Air France airplanes, fly around a bit, and land in several different French airports.

According to the developer, “many features are missing and work still remain (add planes, map, airports etc …) but it is still playable.

“I would like to thanks Manu & Buzz for scenario and sound effects.”

We encourage y’all to grab the download package right here and give this a fresh install. At least take the plane around the block once so that you can offer up a few comments or suggestions to Zx, who we’re sure would appreciate them greatly. Also, make sure you take a look at the README.txt file, which will be in the package. Thanks to Zx81 for his talent and his hard work in putting this project together.
