Dayviewer Beta 1 Released For PSP

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

DayViewer Beta 1 Released

I’m not much of a date or time looker, meaning I’m not usually aware of what time is it or what day it is especially when the weekend is upon me. But now thanks to new Dayviewer Beta 1 recently released for the Playstation Portable, we can now take note of the time while we’re playing.

One more good thing about the Dayviewer is that it would at least remind me of the time so I don’t lose track of it while playing… and forgetting about what I should do, like work.

Total_Noob created the Dayviewer maybe purely for this function… so we don’t get lost in the PSP’s world. Such a bummer though that he only manages to pull it off using  military time, which I am not very fond of.

The Dayviewer can be seen on the upper right hand corner of your PSP screens once installed, just beside the battery icon.

Simply copy dayviewer.prx to the seplugins directory on your memory stick, enable it from the recovery menu and voila! you’re ready to go.

MIDP / JaveME Now on Your PSPs

PSPKVM v0.5.2 Released: Your Favourite Mobile Phone Apps/Games on the PSP

The PSPKVM has just released the new in its line of Playstation Portable-hacking—the MIDP and JavaME. Originally available only as mobile phone applications, PSP-users can now enjoy MIDP / JavaME . In a race to compete with M@x and Sleepper, the PSPKVM made the project in hacking the MIDP / JavaME, which was a port of Sun’s phoneMEFeature.

Here are the features of the newly released applications by PSPKVM:

  • Emulator of real devices

pspkvm is not just a JavaME implementation, it also emulate various real phone devices in term of screen size, key codes etc.. For example, when you choose to emulate “Nokia N73″, that means the screen size and key code values will be same as the real N73 phone, some games may rely on these values to run correctly.

  • User defined key layout

Default key layout may not suitable for every games, so user defined key layout is available for each game.

  • Install application via HTTP

The phoneMEFeature default installation mechanism is remained, you can find and install jad/jar files from web.

  • One-click install & run jad/jar from memory stick

User can select jad/jar files from memory stick and run it like previous pspkvm, and actually its installed automatically when you first time to run. After that user can select from Application Manager to run, configure and remove the installed application.

  • MVM support

MVM (Multiple Virtual Machine) feature gives the ability to run several MIDlets at the same time. For example: user can run Messenger in background to chat while gaming, or browse web via opera-mini while running Google Maps.

  • Nokia UI support

Since so many games require Nokia UI, pspkvm provides a well optimized, native based implementation of this set of APIs. Currently, however, not ALL Nokia APIs are supported, but still meets the requirement of most games

If you’d like to look into it, here’s the download links for the change log of PSPKVM v.0.5.2:

New Visual Elements For The Tekken 6 Courtesy of Katsuhiro Harada

Katsuhiro Harada brings new visual elements to Tekken 6

I’ve always been a fan of the Tekken series, probably even before my kid cousin got so gaga over it. So when Tekken 6 was released, we immediately tried it out in arcades. Yep, complete with the memory card that can store what characters you are mastering… and what stage you are currently in.

But besides those added feature to the new Tekken, I was immediately smitten with the new visual effects that was added by some computer software genius. For Tekken’s 15th anniversary, Katsuhiro Harada took the Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion movement to the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 to bring to new heights the game’s graphics. One of the things I loved about the new release is the full-time variable motion blur effect—a first for fighting games—that made the character’s movements more realistic by blurring the directions of their movements.

Harada says it is not like the partial blurring effect that was used in past games; this one’s on the top of the blurring vision effects. It’s like no other. The effect depends on the movement’s style and speed, which personally I know can be reset by the player—it could also be turned on or off depending on your preference. But for maximum effect, I suggest you turn the visual on. It’s simply stunning.

Here are caps of the effect: The ones on the left are without he motion blur effect, and the one on the right are the ones who had it on.

It’s pretty difficult to appreciate it as screencaps. And a video might be better. Check this site out in the future for a video. I have to scrounge around for it. But take m y word for it, the effects are a treat in the eyes.

JPCSP - v0.02 revision 1064

The last five revisions of the Java PSP Emulator by JPCSP—from rev. 1060 to 1064—were incorporated into this latest Java Emulator edition. The JPCSP Team has just lately developed this emulator, but MaXiMu said that the JPCSP team wants the changes to remain private for now. Although he discloses that the PCSP link was removed and the complied public SVN was also discontinued.

Here are the change logs according to pspupdates:

  • r1064 – added io ctl cmd 0×01010005 (umd file seek set, issue 88)
  • r1063 – fixed interpretation of Z for 2D Vertex, tested with 2DStudio.
  • r1062 – sceIoPollAsync() should yield in all cases to allow the async IO to complete (completes only on thread switch).
  • r1061 – fixed “ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: Sector number 126031 out of bounds.” (Issue 74).
  • r1060 – implemented VUC2I, VC2I, VUS2I, VS2I – Fixed VH2F – Fixed disasm of VFPU Instructions currently implemented

No word yet whether or not JPCSP will soon release another version. Folks need to settle with the latest 1064 first.

An Early Release For The Impatients—The PSPrx Launcher v2.2

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

As my 13-year-old cousin rants nonstop about why his new Playstation Portable can’t be hacked by some computer genius, I stumbled upon an article announcing the release of PSPrx Launcher version 2.2, which could load PSP plugins for ChickHEN users. Amazing isn’t it?

Apparently, as many ChickHen users sulk on one corner waiting for Team Typhoon’s ChickHEN R3 with plugin (PRX) to be releases (which, according to sources, is nearing completion already), XMBDebug has just made available for download the PSPrx Launcher v2.2 complete with codes enabling ChickHEN users to download PSP plugins into it.

Although others say it doesn’t work for them, all have different experiences with plugins though so better try if you’re one of the few lucky ones.

Here’s the rundown on the PSPrx Launcher v2.2:

  • File Explorer that facilitates the choice of plugin.
  • Improved compatibility of the launcher.
  • Running PSX games! (Tested on 5.00M33-6, PSP Fat)

Comments have been so far confusing if it works for all or not. But it’s a good spinoff while waiting for Team Typhoon’s version. So, there you have it. Holler below if it works for you.

New PSP Theme for Grand Theft Auto IV

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

PSP Theme: Grand Theft Auto IV

Finally, a new theme for my PSP based, of course, on the Grand Theft Auto IV. Nothingface420, a PSP veteran from psp-hacks.com announced a couple of days ago that he just released a newly created theme for the PSP.

The theme is simple enough. Rather than being icon-bases, it’s mostly text and images but the over-all interface still works for me. Characters from the Grand Theft Auto IV literally littered your screen; they act as icons-slash-links to network, photos, videos, setting and music. Each image shows a different background for the theme, making it not only uniquely eye-catching but entertaining as well.

So according to Nothingface, his PSP theme is a spin-off from Marc’s Grand Theft Auto IV city theme and the control buttons he got from Uoykcuf86.

The feature include: custom main XMB icons, gameboot, cintro, boot sound, bootlogo, smooth scrolling, click sounds, option menu, osk, volume bar, visualizers, album icons, loading icons, restart/turn off function, custom vsh menu, slideshow and wallpapers.

Mixed reaction were given to the new theme… some said the features are kind of buggy. It’s definitely not Nothingface’s best work but it’s still cool for patrons of the GTA IV. Check it out! It’s thematic version of a character-based interface gives it a slight edge.

Scans unveiled new character for Tales of VS

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Scans confirm characters for Tales of VS

Seven more new characters are confirmed to be included in the new version of the Tales of VS for the Playstation Portable (PSP). This would surely pit the current characters of Tales of VS against each other and with the new characters too, in a fighting free-for all using their Artes. They would also have to use the locations and items they acquired from the different games, as well as each other’s unique Mystic Arte.

The Tales Union managed to get some copy of a gaming magazine, which they generously scanned to share with all of us. Here’s the list of the additional characters:

  • Jade Curtiss (Tales of the Abyss)
  • Nanaly Fletch (Tales of Destiny 2)
  • Arche Klaine (Tales of Phantasia)
  • Lloyd Irving (Tales of Symphonia)
  • Collete Brunel (Tales of Symphonia)
  • Philia Felice (Tales of Destiny)
  • Mao (Tales of Rebirth)

Did your favorite characters get confirmed? Here’s the deal: as many of you know, various online community and gaming forums are keeping track of the new released characters, based of course o the trailers and shall we say, teasers, that Namco Bandai has previously released. Trade Union currently has 18 new characters in the list, and the seven I posted above are just additional to what was announced before.

The list, of course, could be wrong… but based on magazine scans sightings and video trailers, this is as good as we can have it.

Swine flu scare gives Capcom Japan second thoughts in attending E3

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Swine Flu

The E3 festivities is encountering huge blockage because of the swine flu virus that has since in recent months swamped numerous nations in fears, with 8,829 cases of it around the world. As there are only a couple of weeks left before the big E3 fest starts, attendees worldwide are double checking the list of participants in fear of the said virus.

E3, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo, is an annual trade show for the computer and video games industry. It is sponsored and presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

But despite its great impact and influence to the computer and video games industry, Capcom Japan–a multinational company long-dedicated for the manufacturing and distribution of computer games–is seriously reconsidering its attendance to the E3 fest.

Capcom said that its Japanese arm is unsure of attending the said event especially after famed Capcom producer Keiji Inafune cancels his appearance at the Nordic Game expo in Sweden, also because of the flu scare.

It said its office is still uncertain of sending Capcom representatives to Los Angeles, United States–where E3 would be held. The United States currently has 4,714 cases of N1H1, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

But Capcom is quick to point out that the company will have a representative from their US and UK offices, even if its Japan representatives would fail to attend the event.

“The show is in Los Angeles and we have offices in America, so E3 is still on,” a Capcom representative said.

The E3 organizers, meanwhile, said that the even would still go on in spite of the swine flu scare sweeping the nation. Activision, Eidos and Ubisoft have reconfirmed their attendance to E3.

Swine flu virus, officially known as H1N1 virus after a petition from the hog industry saying it “swine flu” brands all hog products as carrier of the said virus, is a special mix of genetic material, which most researchers said are “one of a kind and never-before-seen.”
