Wagic The Homebrew 0.7.1 For The PSP Lets You Battle With CPU Creatures

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Over the weekend, homebrew creators WilLow (or Wololo) released a new version of the increasingly popular game Wagic The Homebrew 0.7.1.

Wagic is a heroic fantasy collectible game card for your Playstation Portable, which lets you battle with your creatures in your computer. The game is based on a popular card game. In this game, you can improve your army as you win battle after battle.

The game features a deck editor, extra modes to unlock and allows you to create your own cards with a simple text editor. You can also play with other game cards from Final Fantasy, Naruto and even those from wrestling games.

Here’s the changelog for the new Wagic The Homebrew 0.7.1:

  • Wagic now has more than 2100 cards, including 500 new cards from the 10th Edition, Alara Reborn, Shards of Alara, Urza’s saga, Revised, Ice Age, Ravnica, Shadowmoor, Legends…remember that you can get more sets from the community at http://wololo.net/wagic
  • Counterspells finally work! Blue decks now get all their power back. Plus, the AI doesn’t complain if you keep counter its spells and play the bad guy.
  • Improvements in the Shop: Sets that have more than 80 cards now offer boosters (the minimum was 100 in previous releases), the shop tells you how many cards of a given name you already own, so that you don’t buy more than necessary
  • New parser keywords: “lord” now works until end of turn for instants and sorceries, fizzle keyword (for counterspells), stack is now a valid zone for targets, library is now a valid zone for targets, damage all, move all, discard (random), deplete, rampage
  • Zip file support for images.
  • Translation system. Wagic is now available in french and german (thanks Aco), and, of course, in english. This is experimental, and will be improved depending on the success of this feature. See Res/lang/Readme.txt for more info. If you can translate Wagic in another language, feel free to do so and contact me. Currently this only supports latin 1 languages though, but if a coder wants to dig in and help us with font issues for other languages, let me know.
  • The main menu shows you various stats about your decks
  • 4000 cards limitation has been removed.
  • AI Decks now get a name and a description
  • Libraries can finally be searched (think Diabolic tutor)
  • Performance improvements in the Deck editor and the shop for people with huge collections
  • Sleep mode doesn’t crash the PSP anymore (thanks orine)
  • Various Bug fixes (Momir Basic crash with too much mana, Shroud for cards in hand or in the graveyard, …)
  • Cards Bug fixes (Arcanis the Omnipotent, Cancel, Counterspell, Heartcage Giant , Northern Paladin, repulse, Restrain, Shadowfeed, Skyshroud Vampire, Soothing Balm, Spell blast, Strength of unity, …)

But I warn you, once you get hook with Wagic, there’s no turning back.

PSP homebrew - Chronicles v1.1d

A new homebrew game by Team Duck will allow us to battle with ghosts and goblins in a first-person action-packed game. Called the Chronicles v1.1d, this adventure game is especially brewed by the creators for Playstation Portable users.

Simply battle your way through the ghosts, goblins and other creatures and get the secret key to the locked gate to win the game. There are six challenging levels in the game so you have to gear up and prepare to battle past your way through it.

Here’s the changelog for the different Chronicles versions:

1.1b:

  • Fixed clipping 99% (by restructuring the rendering and implementing software clipping), just a few tweaks for the last little bit
  • Main menu and pause menu added
  • Loads dungeon lists from files to easily allow for new “episodes”
  • Improved performance on most levels
  • Other tweaks
  • Added a final level and two bonus levels, teasers for the next level pack

1.1c:

  • Fixed clipping 100%
  • Fixed game pause glitch
  • Misc. tweaks

1.1d:

  • Fixed gate and key masking

To play the game, use the analog stick to move, X to slash your sword and O to jump. Be sure to follow the instructions in the README file before installing. For goblins and ghosts lovers, the Chronicles is a perfect game for you (other than getting stuck with Ghostbusters, of course).

The Release Of The Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Build 4 For PSPs 1000 And 2000

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A (Build 4)

The latest release of the custom firmware won’t be for PSP 3000 users. Finally, someone has taken notice to create a custom firmware for the Playstation Portable 1000 and 2000.

PSPGen’s GENyUS, the creator of the new CFW, released for the PSP 1000 (fat) and the PSP 2000 (slim) his Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Build 4.

Here’s what you need to install the CFW:

  • A PSP-1000 or 2000 v1 or v2
  • A PSP running CFW 3.52 M33 or higher

And here’s what you can get if you install it:

  • All features of Sony’s Official Firmware 5.50
  • Launch UMDs / ISOs / CSOs and demos requiring 5.50 or below
  • Launch homebrew
  • Launch PSOne (POPs) games
  • Access to recovery mode (change CPU speed, enable/disable plugins, registry hacks, flash access, etc.)

To install, just simply unzip the archive, copy everything under PSP/GAME/UPDATE to your memory stick and run the updater from the [GAME] menu.

Do not attempt, however, to install or flash the Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-A Build 4 to your PSP 3000 or TA-088v3 handhelds. The results will not make you happy, believe me.

Battlegrounds III v0.2 Released For Download

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Battlegrounds III v0.2

The homebrew coder Xfacter released Battlegrounds III—a homebrew game with full 3D graphics. Battlegrounds III v0.2 is a hovertank deathmatch game, which goal is to remove the tanks on your way.

Using a variety of weapons, you must defeat your enemies and bring glory to your homeland. This sounds amazingly like Homer’s Troy. There are a range of weapons in Battlegrounds III v0.2 with varying levels of effectiveness. Xfacter noted that in order to defeat your opponents, you must remove him shields and armor. The machine gun is an all-around weapon while the laser is effective against shields. The tank shells, meanwhile, are effective against armors. But the missiles are the all-around better weapon among the available ones.

The controls of the game are as follows:

  • Movement – TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, CROSS, SQUARE
  • Look – Analog Nub
  • Change Weapon – D-Pad Left/Right
  • Fire – Right Trigger

Xfacter also announced that the next release will implement a multiplayer mode with 16 players using the Ad-Hoc PSP.

PSP Go’s Battery Not Better Than The PSP 3000

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

PSP Go Battery Life A Bit Less Than PSP-3000

Just when you thought everything was fine and dandy about one piece of machine, you found out it’s not so fine after all.

My current PSP 3000 does not last me more than a couple or more of hours before it runs out of battery. So, when the PSP Go was introduced during the E3 Fest, I really thought that a new handset has finally come to save us PSP users from recharging nonstop our handheld consoles.

But alas, news have broken out that the new PSP Go doesn’t even last as the PSP 3000. The European Playstation Blog recently pointed out that the PSP Go can last for only about three to six hours of gaming experience; while video watching lasts approximately three to five hours.

On the other hand, the PSP 3000 can last for about four to six hours of game time and four to five hours of UMD videos.

Sure, that’s only an hour of difference but a lot can happen within an hour right? You can still win over your opponent and post a record-breaking win at Need For Speed.

PSP 3000 Comes Out With Its Hannah Montana Version

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

PSP 3000, Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, Disney, Sony, Skype

The Hannah Montana invasion just hits the Playstation Portable handhelds. As globally, we saw how the Montana mania sweep young girls off their feet, Sony—in partnership with Disney, of course—is bringing young girls from Nintendo DS to the more sophisticated PSP 3000.

But not only that, they would be releasing a lilac-purple Hannah Montana-inspired version of the PSP 3000. The new pop princess has found a place in the growing numbers of PSP 3000 owners.

So that brings us to—in addition to Piano Black, Vibrant Blue, Mystic Silver, Pearl White and Radiant Red—six color option for the PSP 3000. The new portable gets a feminine touch with the touch of lilac-purple. SCEE also bundles this new Hannah Montana PSP 3000 with a Hannah Montana: Rock Out The Show.

“As girls spend as much time listening to music, taking and editing photos, watching movies, chatting with Skype, surfing the net and playing games with their friends as boys do,” says Isabelle Tomatis, European Marketing Manager, SCEE: “We thought it was about time that they had their own color of PSP 3000 and we styled this one up just for them.”

I’m far from being in the young girls category but if I were to buy a new PSP 3000, I’d probably get my hands on this Hannah Montana-themed PSP.
