Newly Released Custom Firmware Enabler v3.20

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Custom Firmware Enabler v3.20 Released

As previously reported, Xenogears and Becus25—creators of the custom firmware enabler—steered clear from critics saying their previous homebrew plugins needed more fixes. The new custom firmware enabler v3.20 will let your custom firmware features (those that are already installed in your Playstation Portables) on your 5.03 PSP 3000 or TA-088v3 to be equipped with more handheld features.

CFWEnabler v3.20 changes:

  • Now you can use plugins that are not on seplugins folder.
  • Now we use our own systemctrl, not GENyUS ones.
  • Version is now 5.00M33-6.
  • Native 5.03 Pops is now supported.
  • MS Speed Patch available.
  • Fixed bug that did not patch version.txt properly.
  • Quick Start mode (Autostart if you don’t press R Trigger).

For added security and function, use it with Team Typhoon’s ChickHEN. Now, let us see if this can surpass all previously released custom firmwares. If not, let us expect more from Xenogears and Becus 25—those guys are genius when it comes to creating improved custom firmwares for our download buffs.

Sony Updated PSP Firmware 5.51

PSP Firmware 5.51 Update

There’s something I don’t understand why Sony updated its Playstation Portable 5.51. But here it is in plain and simple sight… the updated version of the PSP Firmware 5.51.

I deduce nothing extraordinary with this update, just a couple of network passes we couldn’t do before. There’s the same old nonsense; and an improved system software stability during the use of some features. Aside from that, I couldn’t see anything special with the updated Firmware 5.51.

If you’re the hacked but Pandoraless, PSP 3000 or TA-088v3 type, I wouldn’t recommend updating your firmware to the 5.51. There are more important applications for your memory sticks to exhaust itself with.

Apollonia v0.04 For The Homebrew Idol

PSP homebrew - Apollonia v0.04

The makers of Apollonia is hoping to enter this v0.4 version to the Homebrew Idol 2 contest. Code Tactics, the maker of Applonia, went on with a new update of this homebrew airstrike game for the Playstation Portable.

But because they are considering entering this to the contest, they added a few more optimizations and tweaks in it. Here are they:

Features:

  • Chase camera – The default camera view is from behind the helicopter, rather than from isometrically above. The original (retro) camera view can be selected from the controls screen.
  • Player profiles – Player names and data can now be saved to a database.
  • Enhanced particle effects -ÊThese are used for missile impacts and bullet to ground impacts.
  • Airstrike! – An A-10 Thunderbolt II can be called using L+R trigger. Includes audio.
  • New Apache model.
  • Ingame messages can be printed to the HUD.
  • Briefing screens – To add meaing to the madness, there are short mission descriptions for each mission (excludes Instant Action).
  • Three new missions.
  • Friendly tanks.
  • Player Statistics – Mission data is saved to a player’s profile. This includes flight time, accuracy, deaths etc.
  • Post mission score board -ÊThe score board summarises statistical data of a just completed/failed mission.
  • New Ammo and Health display on the HUD.
  • The player helicopter can start some missions airborne.
  • New factory building.
  • Existing buildings have been scaled more accurately.
  • Tweaked existing missions so that the player is less likely to be overwhelmed.

Some of the issues rammed, however, to the new Apollonia is that there are sometimes incorrect textures loaded, the three player profile limit, high memory usage and that suspend mode is not supported. But besides those, the Apollonia v0.4 works well for me.

The latest update for the GoblinPSP v2.5.0.1 now has support for CFW 5.03GEN-A for HEN.

Here’s the GoblinPSP v2.5.0.1 changelog:

  • If you are upgrading from a version lower than v2.0.0.0 you must remove GoblinPSP
  • Fixed some bugs in the program
  • Updated 5.03GEN CF-A HEN

This new update is especially useful for people like me who can’t work with cluttered surrounding. Even with high-tech gadgets, I like my files to be organized into folders and such. IRDA Joy Mod v2.1 Lets You Use Old Joystick Controllers To Your PSP

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Last night, I posted about the FuSa gamepad. If you’re too lazy to scroll down, the FuSa gamepad allows you to use your Playstation Portables as game controller to your high-action computer games. Instead of using the keyboard and mouse, just plug the PSP in a USB port and you’re good to go.

The IRDA Joy Mod v2.1—created by Buzz—is the reverse scenario of the function of the FuSa gamepad. When in FuSa you have to use your PSP as the gamepad; the IRDA Joy Mod v2.1 allows you to use old DB9 joysticks to control the games in your handheld console.

DB9 joysticks such as Atari, Amiga and Amstrad work well with PSP 1000. Those little box controllers take care of all your gaming needs. The box will be using the IRDA port of your PSP 1000. You’ll be needing two AA batteries to operate them. Just some of the games played with the DB9 joysticks are PSPHUGO, PSPCAP 32 and PSP2600.

No word yet on whether this will work with other PSP models, but let’s hope they will update this for the latest version.

You can save these custom maps under whatever name you’d want to use.

Hack PSPs With The Password Viewer v0.1

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Passwords Viewer v0.1

The new Password Viewer v0.1—created by PSPatrick, and released through mhorpeox—allows downloaders to view the passwords and account names stored in your PSP system. Pretty neat, right? Although this is, of course, highly risky as anyone can have access to your passwords once they got hold of your memory stick still, the Password Viewer v0.1 makes it easy for you to retrieve your passwords.

Developer notes that:

See how this program will enable you to view and save your passwords and account id stored in the system! And then you can insert your memory stick in any psp with custom firmware from 5:00 up and see and save your passwords!

The passwords that will display are:

  • Password System
  • PlayStation Network
  • Step-Up
  • Step-Up 2

You can choose between two options “View Passwords” you will see the passwords stored in the system or “Save Passwords” that will save in ms0: / passwords_nickname.txt “where nickname is the user name from here takes the passwords.

Just be sure to keep your PSP and memory sticks in a safe place when you’re not using them. Those saved passwords (and gameplay) may not be easy to retrieve after all if you lose access to them.

The Release Of The FuSa Gamepad

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

FuSa GamePad Released

Are you tired of the old Playstation controllers? With this new release of Team FuSa’s Andy_maN, you can now use your Playstation Portable as a gamepad for some hardcore PC gaming action. The FuSa gamepad allows you to use the popular PSP handhelds to control games you would normally play in your desktop computers.

Simply grab your PSP, plug it into the USB port of the computer and fight your way through Battle Realms, Counterstrike, etc. This new gamepad would be better if it’s wireless but come to think of it, the FuSa gamepad is a pretty good start already.

The new FuSa gamepad has been released on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Leopard. See the README first before installing this in your consoles, desktops and laptops.

Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01 Can Now Support The PSP 3000

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Custom Firmware Enabler 3.01 Released: Now Supporting the PSP-3000!

To top of Sony’s 5.03 beat down recently, another security-shattering blow is delivered by Xenogears and Becus25 through the new custom firmware enabler. The CFWenabler version 3.01 contains new codes to support the PSP 3000. It also enables most, if not all, features of CFW M33 on your PSP consoles.

But remember you’re going to need ChickHEN R2 as well so download both plugins below.

The CFWEnabler 3.01 has these changes:

  • PSP 3000 is now supported.
  • Graphical interface improved.
  • Network update option added (Server Needed).
  • Official network update blocking option.
  • New configuration options.
  • Free UMD Region.
  • Pic0/Pic1 Hide.
  • version.txt.
  • Registry Hacks.
  • CPU overclocking.
  • Solved several bugs.

With the way our homebrew creators are updating applications and plugins, don’t be surprise when more and more new versions would come out in the following days. After all, what would an ingenious creation be if it does not fit all versions of the popular Playstation Portable? I’m sure my kid cousin would love these new downloads.

Gran Turismo For PSP Will Have No DLC

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

No DLC planned for Gran Turismo PSP

In a Famitsu magazine interview with Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi, he revealed that they aren’t planning to include a DLC for the soon-to-be-released Gran Turismo Playstation Portable.

“We’re making the PSP Gran Turismo with the feeling of how would we make the first game in the series now, in 2009,” said Yamauchi. “So, we wanted to make the content fulfilling for those playing for the first time. And so, we made the composition of the software simple as well. We made it so it won’t tie in with the separate business of network downloads.”

But even without the DLC, Yamauchi guaranteed an 800-plus cars and 35 tracks with 60 layout variations… All that is expected to run at a full 60fps.

I have always been a sucker for car-racing games so I can’t wait until this one is released and I get to try it out for myself. I don’t think I will even notice that it comes without DLC, the 800-plus cars to choose from is blinding me from all defects that might come out once I purchased it.

The Gran Turismo for PSP is set for an October 1 release in the US.
