Myst coming to PSP via PS Store

Cyan Worlds, the creator of Myst, will finally be releasing the popular game for the PSP on July 16. Through the PSP Store, Myst will debut in US shores the same time as Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will come knocking on our doorsteps.

The PSP version, according to GDN reports, will have the same format and gameplay as the original. But as a bonus treat, they will be including the New Rime Age that was supposedly released for the original (but never pushed through).

Myst brings the player in a mysterious island where “no other living soul can be found.” The player must explore the island and solve the puzzles in order to unlock the secrets of the island.

The screenshots provided for the game shows spectacular graphics and interface. Now, we just have for a few more days before we finally get a hold of PSP’s Myst.

UnPlugOff Prx Helps You Save Power

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

UnPlugOff prx

If you’re tired of always having to deal with a low-battery Playstation Portable then, here is your chance to eliminate that annoying accident of pulling into the PSP too much and accidentally unplugging it from the power source.

I usually play my console while it is plugged into an electric socket. Aside from the fact that it charges the PSP battery, I can also play without the hours ticking inside my head.

The new plugin from Peter addresses exactly the problem of accidentally unplugging your PSP. The UnPlugOff Prx automatically shuts down your PSPs when the power cord is unplugged.

You can, however, disconnect your console without switching the PSP off while holding down the shift key. Read the instructions (included in the download) carefully before you install this plugin.

I’m usually for an all-power saver plugin but this bothers me with the point that it might turn off the PSP while I’m in the middle of my fight with my Tekken enemies. The purpose of a battery-powered gadget is to use it without the annoying cables. Now, how would this exactly work for power-saving and utility, I am not sure.

But it’s worth a try. You can always uninstall it if it doesn’t suit your needs, of course.

Medal of Honor Heroes exploit v2

Thanks to kgsws, the new Medal of Honor: Heroes Exploit was released with compatibility for firmware 5.51 and prior.

The Medal of Honor: Heroes Exploit is a popular game for the Playstation, but since the Playstation Portable made its debut, Medal of Honor players have begun requesting for the game’s introduction to the game console. This new version is quite a take out from the ones released before. Because more and more users are becoming dependent on custom firmwares, this version incorporates some codes to so it can work with Firmware 5.51.

According to the developer’s notes, the vulnerability stems from a “format string” overflow in the player’s name. Don’t forget to check out the details in info.txt from the download. The source code of the game is also included in the download pack.

Taking Enemies To Your Side Shown In New Undead Knights Screenshots

Turning enemies into minions in new Undead Knights screenshots

Undead Knights, which is produced by Tecmo, is a game where players can command a squad of undead soldiers taken from the enemies they have pushed to their deaths. These new minions of yours will do as they are told (yes, no questions asked. Kinda like a servant, if you ask me), and they can be used as ladders or bridges or they can also be thrown to larger enemies as a kind of weapon against them.

The screenshots—released by Tecmo—shown here shows how the lead characters turned their enemies into their minions. The minions will turn into zombies as they take the sides of the lead characters.

Undead Knights will be available in the US market in fall while Japan will be introduced to this new version on October 15.

Psp X-Shell 4.8 With Fixed Bugs For Easier Browser Experience

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Psp X-shell 4.8

Homebrew coder UmbySpit93 released his version of the PSP X-Shell 4.8—a multifunction shell with incredible graphics and multi-useful functions.

In its graphics, the coder added an initial boot while in its functions, it added a recovery (bootable by pressing the R key during the boot), a VSH menu to enter the recovery while game is proceeding, the English language (previous version used French) and the option to choose the style of recovery (m33, GEN).

This version also fixed a bug “that did not allow the opening of the browser and the automatic upgrade.”

The coder said it was not possible to add a file browser in the new features since it is full of bugs, but be rest assured that a file browser would be added in future updates.

PSPdisp v0.3 Makes PSP A Monitor Extension For Your PCs

Monday, July 13th, 2009

PSPdisp v0.3

The previous release of the PSPdisp, which allows you to use your PSP as an extended monitor of your PCs, has some very known issues like hanging while waiting for the Wlan timeout, stuttering of the audio if data cannot be transferred fast enough (due to network conditions and low PC specs), and the drawing commands from some applications with no screen changes.

But all of these have been solved with this latest release from developer JJS. This release adds sound streaming and new WLAN mode. There’s more, read below:

* SideShow driver for Vista and Windows 7
* speed improvements / CPU load reduction
* CPU load reduction (down to 0 % without screen changes) when using the PSPdisp display driver
* rotation is now performed on the PSP, no increase in CPU load on the PC
* quality and delay settings now customizable through the UI
* completely revamped Wlan mode (switched server to the PC, can now recover from a lost connection etc.)
* added option to disable display streaming (only transmitting controls)
* new option to always switch the PSP display to the screen containing the mouse cursor
* new control file command to display an onscreen keyboard for entering text on the PSP
* new control file command to display the PSPdisp menu at the current mouse position
* added support for the assignment of key combinations to PSP buttons (e.g. ALT+F4 can be mapped to one button)
* various settings regarding PSP power saving in USB mode (turning off screen, reducing clock speed, etc. after a user defined idle timeout)
* PSP clockspeed can be configured for Wireless LAN mode (default, 111, 222, 333 Mhz)
* all user defined files (configuration data and control files) now stored in the application data path
* experimental audio streaming

The integration of Windows Vista and 7 adds an exciting new twist to this application. So far, JJS is the first I’ve known who put in the new operating system in use for a PSP application. And as far as working conditions are concerned, the PSPdisp v0.3’s features are all in good order.

Smash My PSP! v4.0: An Update Of The Original PSP-Crushing Game

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Smash My PSP! v4.0

One of the worst nightmares for any PSP users is of course having their beloved portables crash on them. What with the games, applications and what-nots you have put into that little console, having it break right in front of you would constitute the worst day of your life.

Luckily, to those who feels a little antagonism about this console, here’s a chance for you to smash your PSP (whenever you feel like it), and have it back to normal after you’re done with your anger.

Smash My PSP! is a game where you can destroy your PSP main menus in different ways. Created by zeroXorXdieXskater, this homebrew game is not on its 4th update, and has gotten a visual overhaul since the last version of its release.

To play the game use the D-pad or analog stick to control your weapon, X to use it and start to change your weapons. You have to press the L and R buttons to take a screenshot. To reset the backgrounds, you only have to go to weapons and choose reset. Changing the background means pressing the select button.

Customizing your own background is as simple as putting a .png image in ms0:/PICTURE, loading the game and pressing select button to go to the backgrounds menu. Pressing L or R buttons will enable you to scroll by 5 items instead of one.

The changelog for this version is as follows:

-remade all menu backgrounds
-remade title screen
-hammer and pistol are no longer fully automatic
-added stamp menu and seperated the 1 stamp into 3
-the backgrounds menu was replace with a browser that lets you select an image from “ms0:/PICTURE”
-rewrote a lot of code
-increased amount paint can sprays

This game is not only kind of fun (although do take it away from the kids), but the ingenuity of its creator also adds to the suspense and craziness of the game. Perfect for passing the time, or having a simple uncomplicated game, the Smash My PSP! is something every PSP gamers need to have in their consoles.

PspStates Experiment Patch Released For PSP 3000 Only

Monday, July 13th, 2009

PspStates Patch for PSP-3000

Through the 5.03 GEN-A or the custom firmware enabler, Dark_AleX’s PspStates can now work on your Playstation Portables 3000.

This patch allows you to save everything in its current state, according to PSP Hacks. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the middle of the game, PspStates can save it all. Then after saving, you can turn the PSP off and return to the exact same state you saved your PSPs in. Thanks to Total_Noob, he made it possible for this particular patch to work with 5.03 GEN-A and the CFWEnabler.

The catch, however, is that PspStates only work for now for the PSP Slim. Why? In the current setup, the PspStates is using Slim’s extended memory. Unless memory sticks are updated in all PSP versions, I’m afraid you can only use PspStates with the Slim.

CTFTool GUI For 5.50 Translated To English

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

CTFTool GUI for 5.50

The coder of the CTFTool released an English translated version of the CTFTool GUI For 5.50. Previously in French, this tool developed by patpat is a program that allows you to create themes that are compatible with CXMB direct from your computers. You can also extract the files from a CTF that has already been created.

This program is created to create themes that are compatible with the custom firmware 5.50GEN.

The developer said that some files were removed from the programs including common_gui.prx, paf.prx and vshmain.prx. He said that because of the range of domestic policy PSP-ENG, it is not permitted to post in the forums. To find these files, you must use the PSARDumper and extract them from their firmware.

NetUpdate Fixer 1.01 For Past And Future Versions Of CFWEnabler

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

CFWEnabler NetUpdate Fixer 1.01 Released

Homebrew coders Xenogears and Becus25 released the NetUpdate fixer because of server changes. Now in its 1.01 version, this fixer is for the future versions of custom firmware enablers. This homebrew should be able to fix any problems when attempting a CFWEnabler network update.

The NetUpdate Fixer 1.01 changes from its previous version a fixed bug with the 3.51. It also improved the patching system, which some downloaders have found problems in.

Now because a lot has been said about the custom firmware enablers and the compatibilities of some plugins and applications with it, the release of the NetUpdate Fixer 1.01 patches up these bugs, making it absolutely one of the best supports we can download for our custom firmwares.
