DSONPSP v0.1 BETA Released: A Nintendo DS Emulator for the PSP *Updated*

Yoshihiro, the popular homebrew coder, released his latest masterpiece to date–the DSONPSP, which is a Nintendo DS emulator for Playstation Portables. This is where Yoshihiro became popular the most–downgrading your latest handheld consoles using homebrew emulators. Remember converting 2.00 to 1.50 to 1.00? This is exactly the same thing Yoshihiro does with DSONPSP.

Features:

- NDS TouchScreen ratio on PSP

- Mouse pointer

- Sound

- CPU optimization

- Port the latest build (DeSmuME v0.9.4)

DSONPSP is a port of DeSmuME, and the emulator has a very low FPS rate. But don’t worry, Yoshihiro is putting something in works for the PSP hardware. After all, DSONPSP is still in beta form so there is more for Yoshihiro to do. A little treat: the next version will run Tetris DS at 9 FPS.

Hold+ v4.0 For PSP Released

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Hold+ v4.0

Homebrew coder Torch released a new update of the Hold+, which is a pretty useful application that helps you preserve battery life. Fixing bugs and some recent incorporations led Torch to updating this application to its fourth version.

This latest update is a fix release for PSP owners with busted hold switches. The Hold+ v4.0 has excellent plugins including the ability to automatically switch the LCD screen and backlight (when it is enabled) off, underlocks the CPU to 60MHz, prevents the PSP from going to suspend mode and enables the PSP Slim’s fifth brightness mode.

The changelog:

- This release is a fix for those who have broken the Hold button. Now when the Hold switch is enabled, the PSP is in Hold mode until the switch is not turned off.

- Removed the Display OFF mode

The bug fix will prevent a mulfunctioning hold switch  from “randomly interfering,” according to Torch. To remove display off mode, simply press the analog up button while releasing the hold.

PSPGo Has New Firmware And Features

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Eurogamer got their hands on a PSPGo pre-release and according to PSP-hacks’ reliable source, here’s what they got: The pre-release sample of the hardware comes with an unreleased firmware revision–5.70. This firmware features a lot of update and changes compared with the current 5.51.

Here are the changes for the PSPGo with the firmware 5.70, which targeted the settings area of the XMB:

- Network Update is now listed as System Update, but, curiously, has the same options.

- Video Settings obviously doesn’t have the first four UMD-related toggles.

- System Settings now has a “Your Birth Date” option (second from top), and a “Display Panel Close Option” toggle, which allows you to set it to either “Standard” (goes to a clock graphic) or “Enter Sleep Mode”. Also “Battery Information” seems to be gone, as do UMD-related options, but there’s a “Format System Storage” option in addition to the usual Memory Stick format option.

- Power Save Settings loses the “Backlight Auto-Adjust” option for some reason.

- There’s a new “Bluetooth Device Settings” entry, which consists of a toggle for switching Bluetooth on and off and a “Manage Bluetooth Devices” entry.

The total available storage for those who will hook up the PSPGo with a Mac via a USB will be reduced to 14.74GB that is formatted in the FAT32 configuration. It has a 4GB-size limit.

Sony will not be using a conventional cable with this new handheld as the PSPGo itself uses a wider, thinner connector for the console. They have also taken away the old AV port from the PSP 2000 as there is now a common 3.5mm stereo jack connection for headphones in the PSPGo.

The retail unit with the new firmware and features will come out in October 1.

Multi-platform Astro Boy For PSP To Arrive In Japan

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Multi-platformer Astro Boy: The Video game to arrive in Japan only via PSP

A couple of months ago, the makers of Astro Boy announced that a new video game is in the works for the PSP, Wii, DS. Now, the makers took back the announcement by saying that the new Astro Boy: The Video Game will on be released for the PSP in Japan.

A producer at High Voltage Software, Cameron Rains, confirmed that the PSP version of the game will only be released in Japan. He did not, however, provided an explanation why Japan won’t be having a release of the Astro Boy: The Video Game for the Wii. The DS version will not be handled by High Voltage.

The game has a high resolution that even increases the excitement over its release. As you can see in the screenshots, it has the incredible graphical composition that made Final Fantasy: Dissidia a instant fan favorite since its release.

Although this would only be released in Japan, I’m sure a lot of people would be waiting across the Asian shores for this one. Of course, you can always order this game online and wait for it on your doorsteps.

Hold v4.0 Is A Great Music Player For PSP

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

Hold+ v4.0

If you like using your PSP for playing music, Torch’s Hold+ is something you should have installed inside that console. This will also be usable if your hold switch us semi-busted.

Here’s how it works–when the hold switch is on, Hold+ does the following:

- Switches off the LCD screen and backlight.

- Under clocks the CPU to 60MHz.

- Turns off LEDs.

- Allows the use of Left, Right, LTrigger, RTrigger, Volume and Start buttons if you hold the Select button first.

This way, you will be able to save battery power while listening to your music. The original screen and clock speed will resume when you swith it back down.

Hold v4.0 changelog is as follows:

-This is a fix for people with broken Hold switches that keep randomly switching on and off while in Hold mode. Now when the Hold switch is enabled, the PSP remains in hold mode permanently until the switch is fully pushed to the power off position. This will prevent a malfunctioning Hold switch from randomly interfering.

- Removed Display Off mode (hold ANALOG UP while releasing Hold) since holding Select is sufficient for most users.

It also prevents the PSP from going into suspend mode and fixes the malfunctioning hold switch. More, Hold v4.0 enables the 5th brightness level on the PSP Slim. It increases the vertical scrolling speed under the music menu by aroung 50 percent. It will enable you to scroll 300 songs in 10 seconds.
