AVEC Demo: Map Viewer For PSP

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

AVEC Demo: a vector map viewer for PSP

A demo version from homebrew coder Art has recently been released featuring the AVEC Demo, which is a vector map GPS navigator for PSP. This homebrew can read and display map files and support points of interest and polylines.

This version, however, does not support a GPS device for navigation although Art said that the device would be included in future releases. As you well know, because it is still in DEMO version, we should not be expecting the program and application to be flawless. And because this is a homebrew application, we only have Art to take for creating something like this.

Browse through the README file included in the download before installing the AVEC Demo.

downPSP v2.18

A new version of downPSP was released by carlosgs that is now coded in C. This application allows you to install all homebrew games and application in your PSP without using a PC. There’s also an integrated search engine with the application that enables you to browse for your favorite homebrews.

The downPSP v2.18 will also let you explore your memory sticks like rename or delete files and view PNG images and txt files. In the future, it has been said that the Gmail will also be brought to the application. downPSP v2.18 also updates itself from the Internet every time a new version of the app is released.

Controls for the game are:

- X select/view/change (only in the config menu)

- O back

- Triangle search (in homebrew list and in file browser)

- Square rename file (in file browser)

Although the preview picture is in Spanish, you will find that it has been translated to English already so don’t worry. This application has already won several coding competitions such as the Scenery Beta and the NeoFlash Spring Compo.

The Modernity Of Rubik’s Cube v2.2

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

PSP Rubik's Cube v2.2

Here’s a new and quick update on the now popular Rubik’s Cube for PSP. This version (2.2) follows the goals and mechanics of previous versions (as well as the original Rubik’s cube you can buy anywhere). Homebrew coder Exter fixed a few bugs in this version of the mind-twisting brain activity.

The new features and fixes of Rubik’s Cube v2.2 are as follows:

- Changed: 36 degrees up view is now the default view.

- Fixed: Game freeze when the PSP is put into sleep mode while the new cube menu was shown.

- Added: Odd sized cuboids (slim towers and wide towers).

The changelog speaks miles about taking this homebrew game to a whole new level. I’m sure plenty of people are dying to see the Rubik’s Cube be brought to more gaming consoles as this could be a good intellectual activity for kids and adults as well.

Turn! It: Solving Puzzles Was Never This Mind-Boggling

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

PSP homebrew game - Turn!it

Preyker, a homebrew coder, released this brand new open source game called Turn! It. The game’s main goal is to solve the hidden hints by rotating your PSPs. So see? It is not only mind-boggling, but you have to do some physical handwork also with this game.

Because it is open source, the developer notes that you can mod, expand and destroy the game at your own will. The game’s mechanics are like this: there’s a picture on the screen, and all you have to do is rotate your PSP so the picture would always be horizontal. By doing so, you can read the “hidden hint,” press the corresponding button and proceed to the next step. Of course, when you get a “fail” five times that means game over. You only have one second to press the right button, so be careful and be accurate.

Download this game and enjoy turning and “twisting” your PSPs and well, your hands too.

Yabause 0.9.10: Finally, A PSP Homebrew Emulator

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Yabause 0.9.10 released

A version of the Yabause for the Sony PSP has finally been released by the Yabause Team. This is a Sega Saturn emulator under GNU GPL that currently runs on FreeBSD, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Dreamcast, PSP and Wii.

I remember playing Sega games during my younger years and although I was not much a fan, I still enjoyed Super Sonic and Batman. There’s something classic, and at the same time modern, about playing in Sega consoles back then (Nintendo still rocks my boat), but this latest homebrew emulator proves to be something that Sega lovers would love having in their consoles since this will bring back all those bittersweet memories of winning and losing.

Download then test this version from the download link. Remember to browse through the README file before using this.

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Battletoads Double Dragon: The Revenge (Version 3)

The third version of this “comical” game was released by MadGear, posting also a new beats of rage mod for the Playstation Portable. Although the game’s title is misleading, this is actually something you can let your three-year-old play since there will be no blood in this game.

Version 3 has these following features:

- Choose from the Battletoads(Rash, Zitz and Pimple) and the Double Dragons(Billy and Jimmy)

- Boss Rush

- Stage Select

- Altered title screen

- Altered ‘Character Select’ screen

- New ‘Stage Complete’ screen

- New ‘High Score’ screen

- Added a part in Mission 2 with new music

- Including the soundtrack as a separate file

The Battletoads Double Dragon: The Revenge Version 3 is still not playable with the Dreamcast, but it be played in the PSP though. And although there are no “blood” in this game, hardcore action gamers should not worry because the “guns” are still there.

DaedalusX64 Alpha Revision 427 - Nintendo 64 Emulator for PSP

There’s a new version of the Nintendo 64 Emulator For PSP. Straight from Kreationz post himself, this new app upgraded his previously released emulator from an ordinary homebrew application into something that would be useful for generations and generations of Nintendo lovers.

The changelog for this update goes:

- Rev 427 [~] Forgot a couple of things.

- Rev 426 [!] FlatShade and ViewPortHack should use flags to compare.

- [+] Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter and Tigger’s Honey Hunt will use DoubleDisplay.

- Rev 425 [!]Reworked Double Display Lists, it is now enabled in roms.ini on a per rom basis as needed to prevent breaking roms

According to Kreationz, to upgrade from the previous version “delete all *.hle files (in SaveGames) as well as preferences.ini and rom.db from your memory stick. STuning v1 Enables Icon Flashing And Other Styles

Monday, August 10th, 2009

PSP homebrew - STuning v1

PSPUpdates forum has this in store for you: the first version of STuning, which is a homebrew application that enables your icons, waves, battery icon, volume bar and other PSP resources to flash.

This is basically a simple tool that is more for the aesthetic quality of your PSP than for any other. Although nobody would see your screens except you, the player still, it’s still amusing to see your icons flash or what not. EsTuArT, the developer, entered this homebrew for the SceneryBeta2009 so now he is willing to let other peeps get a boo on what he has.

The STuning v1, however, only works with a custom firmware 5.5 MHU/GEN so make sure you have already installed all other requirements before installing this app. Peruse the README file in the download pack before going head on with this app.

PSPHugo v1.3.1 Turbo Grafx 16 & PC Engine Emulator Update

Monday, August 10th, 2009

PSPHUGO v1.3.1: Turbo Grafx 16 / PC Engine Emulator Updated

This is an update of the “undisputed champ in classic console emulation-porting league.” Download this engine emulator from ZX-81 and see where this updated version will take you in terms of turbo graphics and more. This application will enable you to imitate the Turbo Grafx 16 or the PC Engine–its stability and the like.

The PSPHugo v1.3.1 changes:

- This version of PSP-Hugo supports IRDA-Joystick box designed by my good friend Buzz (see http://buzz.computer.free.fr). Schematic and PIC source code is provided in contrib folder.

- Add “IRDA joystick” device support for both DB9 Joystick and Atari Paddle

- Add menu for IRDA joystick settings and keys mapping

- Add option to choose between IRDA devices (keyboard or joystick)

True to its promise, the developer of the PSP Hugo released this update with the capability to support and be compatible with joysticks. A lot of gamers are finding it hard to play games using only an ordinary keyboard, so what better way to gift his supporters but bring on a joystick-abled update, right? Download below and start enjoying all the new perks.

Chicken Invaders Released For The PSP

Monday, August 10th, 2009

[Release] Chicken Invaders by Kairus101 06/08/2009

I haven’t exactly played the Chicken Invaders for the PC, but I saw my friend play this one time and I was thrilled to know how simple and time-consuming it is. Perfect to wile away my hours.

The Chicken Invaders is a simple game where all you have to do is gun down the flying chickens and catch the fried chicken, which they will become once they are gunned down by you. Pretty sneaky right? This version for the PSP is not exactly like the PC version, although the creator, Kairus101, is trying to copy the exact version of the PC.

After downloading, place the Chicken Invaders folder under X:/PSP/GAME/ to install the game. You will need a custom firmware in order for Chicken Invaders to work.
