PSP Style Steampunk: A Fallout/Bioshock Mod

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Steampunk-style PSP Fallout/BioShock Mod

Not since AcidMods released its own PSP style to prevent shock and falling did we see something so incredulous-looking for a PSP style. Thomson09, a pspgen local, unveiled to us his steampunk-looking PSP fallout/bioshock mod. Perhaps this is not as bright-looking and flashy like some LED-laden PSP style other have got, but there’s nothing on earth that looks exactly like this PSP style.

At first you’d think this is just some handheld console that got wash away with flood, eroded, filthy, etc. But check out the video to see that it actually works for real. I don’t exactly know how they made it to look this way. The rustic features, etc. are all incredibly done that it doesn’t even look fake to me. But the real deal can be found at the back of the PSP wherein you can see some serious devices attached to it to, if I may guess, prevent the impacts of future overuse.

Now, I don’t know exactly why anyone would like to have a PSP that looks like this–old and rotten. But I guess there’s a certain charm to it that some will probably take a closer look and actually try it too.

Gladiator Begins To Be Brought To The PSP By Acquire

Acquire to bring Gladiator Begins to PSP

Class of Heroes’ maker, Acquire, has recently earned the right to release a PSP version of the Gladiator series. And first on their list is to take on the Gladiator Begins, and release it to the world of Playstation Portable.

In Gladiator Begins, you will have to play the role of a gladiator fighting just so he can win his freedom. You will also have to create your character (just like with any role-playing games) dressed in nothing but a loincloth. Then, you will have to fight it out in the arena with other gladiators while the crowd is jeering you on. If you are still finding it hard to understand the mechanics of the game, watch Russel Crowe’s Gladiator, and you will definitely see the similarities between the movie and the game.

Check out the screenshots for more exciting details on this new game. The Gladiator Begins will be released in Japan on October 29. No word yet on an American release.

New Gran Turismo PSP screenshots

Shining, shimmering, splendid: New Gran Turismo PSP pics

Polyphony Digital has just released spanking new pictures of their much-awaited racing game, the Gran Turismo. Here are two car models from the popular game for the PSP. The pictures are taken in various angles so you can have a better vision of what lies ahead for the game’s graphical genius.

There’s the blue Corvette topdown convertible with small but glaring headlights (to say the least) and big wheels that will surely take you to speed. The mugs look amazingly real, you’d think this wasn’t a cut off from some portable game. It looks amazingly the same as a Jaguar car model used in one of the teen movies from the 90s. There’s a touch of classical vintage to it but at the same time, it commands attention by its sheer beauty.

Then there’s the gray Corvetter sports car that has spectacular pairs of wheels. The hubcap will surely take your breath away as it speeds on the Gran Turismo road. It looks a little bit like the blue Corvette although it is much shorter in length compared to the other one.

I prefer having the blue one for my virtual car in Gran Turismo. It packs more color (obviously) and more attitude.

Despertar del Cementerio v8 Modified For Release

Friday, August 7th, 2009

PSP homebrew - Despertar del Cementerio v8 Mod

The Red Bull PSP team has just released the update of Despertar del Cementerio v8, which basically allows you to install custom firmware 5.50 like GEN, MHU and 4.01 M33 the Pandora way. It also allows you to emulate 5.00 M33 using the memory stick.

This “Psardumper” dumps and decrypts some of the 5.50 firmware modules. Here is what the Red Bull Team has to say (translated from Spanish using Babelfish): “The PSARDumper of Dark_AleX has been updated so that it would be able to decrypt files from 5.50 firmware. However, not all decrypts can be because we did not reverse engineer the files containing the keys of the firmware. The truth, we do not believe that what we will do and we understand that there are websites, people that have already completely decoded this.”

Please peruse the README file first before installing this modified application. The README file is included in the download.

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra UMD Requires PSP Custom Firmware 5.55

Friday, August 7th, 2009

PSP Custom Firmware 5.55

The PSP version of the G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra will be requiring the custom firmware 5.55 to work. So those who are planning on getting this game, make sure yo have downloaded first the PSP firmware 5.55. Get ahead before shelling out bucks for it. But don’t worry for those of you who failed to download it during the firmware’s release, the download pack for G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra will include all needed applications and firmwares. No hassle.

Although some bloggers are doubting whether or not the G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra will be released in Sony’s website of Network Update. And much like IdolM@aster, some are expecting that there will come a time that the G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra will be hacked or bypassed so that it won’t require the firmware 5.55 anymore.

The release of the G.I. Joe: The Rise Of The Cobra in theaters early this week is befitting for the release also of its PSP version, which is soon to come. All needed information are, of course, expected to be inside the pack.

Button Masher v0.2 Released

PSP Homebrew Release: Button Masher v0.2

I’m still waiting for the first full version of this game but now, we have to settle ourselves with this new release from Thomly–the Button Masher v0.2. So what’s new with this version?

Here’s the changelog:

- now possible to keep playing the game without needing to restart.

- (ugly) eboot background and icon.

- added credits

This is a pretty simple game to play or decipher, kinda like a child’s game for me, if I think about it. As the game says, you simply have to “smash the buttons” so to speak. This version has a high score system and has a more appealing interface than the version released before.

As this is the first homebrew game from Thomly, don’t expect some grand and awe-inspiring graphics or gameplay. As I said earlier, it’s pretty simple, but something you will enjoy also.

JPCSP v0.3 Revision 1128 Released

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Jpcsp v0.3 rev.1128 - PSP Emulator for Windows

I know a lot of you have been waiting for this new update from the JPCSP team, and to prove my point, here’s the changelog for this revised application:

- r1128 Changed screenshot file nomenclature: Screenshots are now saved as “[Game Code]-Shot-[Numerical tag].png”. If the game code isn’t present (homebrew case), [Game Code] becomes “JPCSP”.

- r1127 Fix for the display bug

- r1126 Implemented basic sceKernelReferSystemStatus()

- r1125 Fix for Iron Man game: expects sceKernelMaxFreeMemSize() to be rounded to multiple of 16 bytes

- r1124 Avoid ConcurrentModificationException

The JPCSP v0.3 Revision 1128 is a PSP Java emulator for Windows, meaning this could help converting those in Java format to a format that could be used in a PSP supporting a Windows format.

There aren’t a lot of bug fixes in this update, but it’s still worth the download since it does offer a better version of this application.

Open Menu PSP Optimizes Homebrew Menu

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Open Menu PSP Released

The Open Menu PSP is intended for homebrew developers who willingly create ingenious applications and games for us Playstation Portable gamers. This application allows developers to easily debug and create and customize homebrew menu to the fullest. It can leave behind even the “smallest of footprints.”

Developers can easily re-create the homebrew applications or games they have released before, and incorporate the Open Menu PSP on them. But more importantly, they can create new applications that will make use of the Open Menu PSP.

Visit the Google Code Project Page if you want to get hold of the source code and up-to-date binaries of the application. Download the app below, and try it out. I’m sure new and budding (even seasoned) developers would see the importance of having the Open Menu PSP.

PSP Sorter Plugin v0.5 Makes One Tough Easy Organizer

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Homebrew Sorter Plugin 0.5

Kinda like the shortcuts in our mobile phones, the PSP Sorter Plugin v0.5 is a simple plugin that puts in order the icons based on its frequency of use. This would easily eliminate the need for gamers to scroll down the list of your homebrew applications.

Follow these simple steps in order to install clearly the PSP Sorter Plugin v0.5:

- Copy the file “homebrewsort.prx” in folder “ms0: / seplugins /”

- Add the following line to file “vsh.txt” (creandolo if not exist):

- “ms0: / seplugins / homebrewsort.prx 1″ without quotes

This updated versions does not have yet the backup in ISO/CSO games or PSX. Hopefully, these could all be added in the next release of this homebrew application.

PSP Action Replay Converter v0.30 For Changing Formats

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

PSP homebrew - PSP Action Replay Converter v0.30

An update from homebrew coder rainq3 for the PSP Action Replay Converter was released. It is a simple homebrew application that enables PSP gamers to convert the code file of PSP Action Replay into CWCheat or nitePR format. This latest update has addeda few more fixes like a new-based conversion and other such bug fixes.

The changelog for PSP Action Replay Converter v0.30:

- Added: Windows based conversion application, only CWCheat conversion.

- Fixed: Issue returning from the PSPAR to nitePR menu.

- Fixed: Crash if circle is enter.

Since a lot of format covnerters are coming out from homebrew coders out there, I hope we can choose more clearly what application to use, and what would suit our portable handhelds.
