PSP 6.00 Firmware On The Works

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

PSP 6:00 Firmware: already in beta!

According to reports, the official Sony developer has already released a beta version of the new 6.00 firmware. PSPGEN also included in their post a picture of this new PSP firmware. I don’t know exactly what this firmware can do but from the looks of it, it’s pretty promising.

Reports are saying that the 6.00 firmware has greater compatibility and interaction with the next 3.00 Playstation 3, which is scheduled for release next week. I am pretty confident now with the 5.00 but seeing as a new firmware is on the works now, then I guess it will also do great things for our PSP. I mean, more apps and plugin compatibility is a good thing right?

No news yet as to when Sony plans to release this to the world of PSP users. And because I am sure a lot of us are now eagerly awaiting this new firmware’s final debut, I can only promise that we will be posting more updates about it.

Details Of James Cameron’s Avatar For PSP

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

James Cameron's Avatar PSP details from PS Official Magazine

The PS official magazine (October issue) is outing that there will be a small feature on the PSP version of James Cameron’s Avatar.

The mag, IGN, said that the PSP version will use the character of Na’vi–a blue-skinned, wide-eyed creature. The game will follow his story after he leaves the village destroyed by the RDA. The game also has a PSP-PS3 connection, and players will be able to transfer “effort points” from portable to console.

Surprisingly, I think we will have more news about the game version rather than the actual movie itself. But anyway, more details will follow as October approaches so better watch out for more posts about this game, or you can even by the PS mag October issue to take home with you.

Game Categories v4 Is Best For Organizing Your PSP Files

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Game Categories v4

I’m not really a very organized person but when it comes to my PSP and computer files, I want everything to be in order; so, don’t be surprised that I am finding this homebrew application very apt for my organizing needs.

This application will enable you to categorize your files and menu under categories that you will be creating.

Here are the changes for this version:

- Recoded entire project.

- Added support for 5.50 GEN.

- Added new mode, “Context menu”, see below for more information (this replaces pre-game-menu mode).

- Added new option under System Settings to pick your mode instead of the ctrl combo.

- Added possibility to translate the plugin to your own language.

- Order of your categories is now calcuated from their modification time instead of randomly.

- Changed remap code, a lot of character and count limits should now be gone or decreased, including SCE limits.

- Show All option was removed in order to aid the removal of certainth limits.

- Fixed compatibility with a lot plugins.

To install, simply follow the steps like with any plugin installation. You can select from two options under your system settings menu: multiple MS (this will show a new memory stick icon for each category you have) or the context mode (this will show a context menu when you press X, and will let you select the category you like).

To create a category, all you have to do is “create a new folder in either GAME, GAME150, GAME5XX or ISO folder with the name of you category prefixed with CAT_ and fill it with everything you want in that category.”

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

PSP homebrew - PSP Adhoc IM v3

So remember that new homebrew app we posted before? The one where you can chat with your friends while playing, or listening to your PSP’s MP3s? Well, this is the third upgrade of that brew.

Coder qwikrazor87 added a new music menu and some other bug fixes to this version. Here is the changelog:

- Added a music menu to play music while chatting, but it must be an mp3 song, it won’t play any other format.

- Fixed error handling

Perfect for those hardcore gamers and chatters, this application is crossing the bridge between gaming and chatting.

Maplevania (OpenBOR): A Double Up, Beat ‘Em Up Game

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

PSP homebrew game - Maplevania (OpenBOR)

This homebrew game is one of the first that combined the characters of MapleStory and Castlevania to create this really cool and action-packed game. Thanks to coder NickyP, we now have this Maplevania with an open BOR.

Mixing up MapleStory’s spirites and Castlevania games have always been a dream for our code developer, NickyP, so seeing a MapleStory character holding a whip as a weapon pushed her into creating this intricately unsuperficial homebrew game. The coder also managed to create this game in BOR, which is all the more reason to love playing it.

Hopefully, we can have more versions of it in the coming days as I can find some bugs that needed fixing here and there. But nothing major, mind you. Make sure you read the README file before installing this game. Download below and enjoy!

Releasing “YourPlayer” To Music Lovers

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

This media player for the PSP is a second version of the UminPlayer. And I must say, that it has more oomph and aamph compared to some other media players created for the Playstation Portable.

YourPlayer has interchangeable skins that are created for comfort while you’re playing. They have very good interface materials, and can virtually seduce you into staring at them for hours (well okay, minutes). This app also supports lyrics. And because it succeeded Sirens Player v2, it can support 17 kinds of formats, as well as 12 styles of codecs. It also has an equalizer and sleep mode.

More, the YourPlayer has Music Share, which allows the user to transfer music from one PSP to another. It has some more music functions but you have to find that out after you download it for yourself.
