The release of the new firmware 6.00 a couple of weeks ago caused a foreseen amount of interest in the PSP industry. Can you imagine what we can make of our own homebrew games if we managed to make it all compatible with a 6.00 firmware? The possibilities are endless, and so Matt and Jack–fondly called Mack–announced that they are tinkering with making the 6.00 compatible with MAC.

But because of speculations on the availability of this new MAC-B firmware, Mack decided to post a video explaining the details of their creation, and promising that it will be available for download…

A little trivia before we move on: AVEC GPS v5 just won in the NeoFlash 2009 Summer Coding Competition for the PSP apps division. Congratulations!

Homebrew coder Art has perhaps the most ingenious homebrew creation ever when he made the AVEC GPS. If you’re a geographically challenged person like my friend, you will need this application seriously. I mean, spending big bucks over a GPS navigator for your car might be the best way to keep track of the places you need to go to but if you can get GPS for free, the better right?

This new download from Art includes…

The official custom firmware 6.00, which has been released for the Sony PSP, has just been decrypted by the GEN group. So remember that about a couple of days ago, we posted an article about the 6.00? Well, here it is now… decrypted and will soon be ready for release too (hopefully).

Although the decryption is still on its first step, I am expecting that there will be some genuine change in terms of compatibility with games and other portables.

According to the GEN team: “The first stage of the discovery of 6.00 has therefore been reached and our team of developers…

GENyUS, a coder, is now back with the new update for the bug fix we found in 5.50 GEN-B2 way back. This will be applied to his latest version of custom firmware. To install this custom firmware: download the file below, and install it directly on 5.50GEN CF-B. Make sure you have this particular custom firmware less you install it on a lower version like the 5.50 GEN-A.

According to reports, the official Sony developer has already released a beta version of the new 6.00 firmware. PSPGEN also included in their post a picture of this new PSP firmware. I don’t know exactly what this firmware can do but from the looks of it, it’s pretty promising.

Reports are saying that the 6.00 firmware has greater compatibility and interaction with the next 3.00 Playstation 3, which is scheduled for release next week. I am pretty confident now with the 5.00 but seeing as a new firmware is on the works now, then I guess it will also do great…
