Early Arrival of Dissidia In Korea Bears Cool Calendar Freebie

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

True fans of the Final Fantasy series, and followers of its development company, Square Enix, have been eagerly awaiting for the drop of Dissidia: Final Fantasy in their own language. Korea wins out, getting the first version in Korean on January 20th. Along with the game, fans will receive free desktop calendars if they initiate a valid pre-order between January 12th and January 14th.

Square Enix and SCEA know how eagerly their American fans are awaiting the release of this game, so maybe they’ll do some kind of rad promotional thing on our behalf, too. We’d like to see something with LEDs or lasers, preferably. Or maybe some kind of neat fan club, like the Burger King Kids Club, except even more gnarly. We’ll take an embossed card to prove our mettle to our jealous friends. More news on the stateside drop of Dissidia as it leaks. Stay tuned.

Sony Will Post Losses of 1.1 Billion Dollars

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

For a company that’s been caught up in the global economic poop storm, more bad times are forthcoming. According to sources at the Nikkei business daily, Sony, whose profit estimates for the year were around US$ 2.2 billion, is expected to announce a loss of US$ 1.1 billion.

This news drops in the context of a year of bad news tidbits from the corporation, who lowered their operating profit from 475 billion last October to 200 billion. Also, the lay-off of 16,000 employees now seems inevitable.

News about how this will affect development for the PS3, the PSP, and new systems on the horizon has yet to drop, but we’ll stay tuned for clues that the company is preparing any big changes to compensate for their fiscal woes. Hopefully, we’ll see some new innovations for their current platforms in order for them to stay briskly competitive in the next several quarters. That can only mean good things for us, their adoring fans! Don’t let us down, corporate dudes. Stay tuned for more news as it drops.
