PSP 3000 Comes Out With Its Hannah Montana Version

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

PSP 3000, Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus, Disney, Sony, Skype

The Hannah Montana invasion just hits the Playstation Portable handhelds. As globally, we saw how the Montana mania sweep young girls off their feet, Sony—in partnership with Disney, of course—is bringing young girls from Nintendo DS to the more sophisticated PSP 3000.

But not only that, they would be releasing a lilac-purple Hannah Montana-inspired version of the PSP 3000. The new pop princess has found a place in the growing numbers of PSP 3000 owners.

So that brings us to—in addition to Piano Black, Vibrant Blue, Mystic Silver, Pearl White and Radiant Red—six color option for the PSP 3000. The new portable gets a feminine touch with the touch of lilac-purple. SCEE also bundles this new Hannah Montana PSP 3000 with a Hannah Montana: Rock Out The Show.

“As girls spend as much time listening to music, taking and editing photos, watching movies, chatting with Skype, surfing the net and playing games with their friends as boys do,” says Isabelle Tomatis, European Marketing Manager, SCEE: “We thought it was about time that they had their own color of PSP 3000 and we styled this one up just for them.”

I’m far from being in the young girls category but if I were to buy a new PSP 3000, I’d probably get my hands on this Hannah Montana-themed PSP.

IRDA Joy Mod v2.1 Lets You Use Old Joystick Controllers To Your PSP

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Last night, I posted about the FuSa gamepad. If you’re too lazy to scroll down, the FuSa gamepad allows you to use your Playstation Portables as game controller to your high-action computer games. Instead of using the keyboard and mouse, just plug the PSP in a USB port and you’re good to go.

The IRDA Joy Mod v2.1—created by Buzz—is the reverse scenario of the function of the FuSa gamepad. When in FuSa you have to use your PSP as the gamepad; the IRDA Joy Mod v2.1 allows you to use old DB9 joysticks to control the games in your handheld console.

DB9 joysticks such as Atari, Amiga and Amstrad work well with PSP 1000. Those little box controllers take care of all your gaming needs. The box will be using the IRDA port of your PSP 1000. You’ll be needing two AA batteries to operate them. Just some of the games played with the DB9 joysticks are PSPHUGO, PSPCAP 32 and PSP2600.

No word yet on whether this will work with other PSP models, but let’s hope they will update this for the latest version.

The Release Of The FuSa Gamepad

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

FuSa GamePad Released

Are you tired of the old Playstation controllers? With this new release of Team FuSa’s Andy_maN, you can now use your Playstation Portable as a gamepad for some hardcore PC gaming action. The FuSa gamepad allows you to use the popular PSP handhelds to control games you would normally play in your desktop computers.

Simply grab your PSP, plug it into the USB port of the computer and fight your way through Battle Realms, Counterstrike, etc. This new gamepad would be better if it’s wireless but come to think of it, the FuSa gamepad is a pretty good start already.

The new FuSa gamepad has been released on Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X Leopard. See the README first before installing this in your consoles, desktops and laptops.

Gran Turismo For PSP Will Have No DLC

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

No DLC planned for Gran Turismo PSP

In a Famitsu magazine interview with Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi, he revealed that they aren’t planning to include a DLC for the soon-to-be-released Gran Turismo Playstation Portable.

“We’re making the PSP Gran Turismo with the feeling of how would we make the first game in the series now, in 2009,” said Yamauchi. “So, we wanted to make the content fulfilling for those playing for the first time. And so, we made the composition of the software simple as well. We made it so it won’t tie in with the separate business of network downloads.”

But even without the DLC, Yamauchi guaranteed an 800-plus cars and 35 tracks with 60 layout variations… All that is expected to run at a full 60fps.

I have always been a sucker for car-racing games so I can’t wait until this one is released and I get to try it out for myself. I don’t think I will even notice that it comes without DLC, the 800-plus cars to choose from is blinding me from all defects that might come out once I purchased it.

The Gran Turismo for PSP is set for an October 1 release in the US.

New Character Screenshots From The Luna: Silver Star Harmony

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

New screenshots, character pics in Lunar: Silver Star Harmony scan

XSEED should be given props for getting the license to release Luna: Silver Star Harmony to the US soils. The game is getting a lot of press time and publicity over its home country, Japan. And although we haven’t heard much about its US release (and what version would come to North America), I’m pretty impressed with what they have lined up during the E3 Fest.

Japan-based gaming magazine Otonafami published a two-page spread on the remake of the popular Playstation Portable game. The magazine confirms that all the CG animation in the game will be digitally re-mastered. Those who are serious enough to get a hold of this game and pre-ordered it in Japan would also get the game’s original soundtrack. Pretty neat, right?

We can only hope that XSEED will also have the same promo over at the US territories. Pre-order and you get an instant soundtrack. Game and music lovers would surely come running after that.

The magazine (and this is where the real stuff comes in) also printed some cool new screenshots of the game, including the Luna’s three characters—Killy, Jessica and Mia.

The Luna: Silver Star Harmony is scheduled for a fall release in North America and Japan so do check the gaming outlets near you.

PSP Laptop Model 0.5 In The Works

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Mod: PSP Laptop Model .5

There’s a new PSP / Laptop model in the works: Folklord’s PSP Laptop Model is currently a work-in-progress. It’s only in its 0.5 stage, but already you can see it will exhibit innovation, creativity and originality at its finest.

The new PSP Laptop Model 0.5 has an LCD screen and side speakers relocated at the topside portion (think laptop screens). There’s also an Xbox 360 chatpad fitted where the PSP screen was once located.

The usual PSP navigator buttons are still placed on both sides—the joystick at the right with the left, right, up and down buttons at the upper part. The screen and chatpad parts are connected by metal-plastic junctions like the ones used in most laptop models.

It’s a combination of PSP, Xbox 360 and laptop in interface, but I still don’t know whether its features are going to mix together the specifications of those three consoles. However, with the way things are going for the PSP Laptop Model 0.5, I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more install for us than what we can see.

Army Of Two: The 40th Day Video From The E3 Fest

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

The ongoing E3 Festival has gifted us with this vid of the new Army of Two: The 40th Day for the PSP. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a leaked screenshot featuring a kid standing between the two main characters, Salem and Rios. Unfortunately, I forgot to look the kid up as to what his role is going to be for this duo.

This vid did not show the kid in the green shirt again so perhaps, it is going to be some kind of surprise when the game is finally released. But the shots did show Salem and Rios in full armor gear and battling it out with the bad guys.

Noticeably, there are some new locations and settings too compared with the previous releases.

Army of Two: The 40th Day is slated for a December 2009 release. It will also be made available for the PS3 and the Xbox. Check it out!

Sims 3 Pushes Simulation To The Limit

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

'Sims 3' ready for prime time

When The Sims was first launched in 2000, it immediately became the biggest-selling game of all time, obliterating all the records made by Nintendo games before it. Mario and Luigi cannot keep up with the popularity of The Sims franchise.

But when Sims 2 was released in 2004, it further gave Electronic Arts—the game’s publisher—a chance to up what could have been a simple, once-in-a-blue bestseller. Today, The Sims 3 is being launched to probably its millions of subscribers.

The first Sims, created by Will Wright, was a game in which players could control a house full of sims (sims stands for simulation; think SIMONE the movie starring Al Pacino). The lives of these “sims” depends on what and how the players would like them portrayed. There is no goal for the Sims. It’s basically like playing with your Barbie and Ken dolls albeit these can be customized with a flick of the finger.

Although the Sims defer to define what exactly is the game’s orientation, it however instantly become a hit to kids and adults a like. So much that the game’s manufacturer decided to extend it to two more version, The Sims 2 and now, The Sims 3.

The two versions are much the same when it comes to how the game is played; only that a couple or more features are developed with the new versions: graphics, applications, plugins, etc. With couple more years after today, I’m sure EA would again come up with another version of The Sims—with more updated, developed and out-of-this-world simulation that ever before.
