[How to] Hard Mod Your Battery To Make A Pandora Battery.

How to turn your regular PSP battery into a Pandora Battery

First off, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! If you use metal and touch something you should not problems will arise. I hold no responsibility over the safety of your battery, PSP, or your fingers before, during, or after this procedure.

Basically all you need to do is open your battery, find and remove a certain pin, and tape the battery closed again.

THIS SECTION IS ONLY FOR PSP PHAT BATTERIES

This is a PSP Phat Battery:


This battery has tape on it because the Hard Mod procedure has already been done to it. You need to use something PLASTIC and stiff to open the battery. Start at the seem around the edge of the battery. Once you get the tool your using started into the battery work your way around the edge, you will here plastic snapping as you do so, its normal.

Once you get the battery open you will see this:


The red circle is the section you need to pay attention to. It is a small chip with four prongs coming out of each end of it. On the main board, beside the chip, you will see ICO4. The pin under the number 4 is the pin that you need to remove.

HOW TO HARD MOD A SLIM BATTERY

This is a Slim Battery:


This battery has tape on it because the Hard Mod procedure has already been done to it. You need to use something PLASTIC and stiff to open the battery. Start at the seem around the edge of the battery. Once you get the tool your using started into the battery work your way around the edge, you will here plastic snapping as you do so, its normal.

Once you get the battery open you will see this:


Carefully fold the main board up so that you can see the side that is against the battery pack.

You'll see this:


The red circle is the section you need to pay attention to. You'll see a small black chip with four prongs coming out of each side. The will be ICO4 printed below the chip.

Now you have two options. You can either remove the pin on the top left or you can severe a line on the board. Either method will work, if you score the line you will have an easier time un-modding the battery. Use Google to see how. I removed the pin in my battery.

And this is a closer view of the pin and the line you may descide to score. If so, use a exacto knife or something similar to severe the line.

How To Softmod

Open Source Pandora Battery Tool (ver. .52 and .60)

Click the link to download the Battery Tool. The Tool will only run on a CFW'ed PSP and is used to convert a normal battery into a Pandora Battery.

Place the ospbt_052 file in the GAME 4XX folder (for 4.01 M33-2). Insert the battery that you wish to convert to a pandora battery and run the Battery Tool. If you wish to undo the changes to your battery later you MUST back-up the eeprom first.

All of the options are pretty self explanatory...

im kinda new to the aero dynamics n terms of hacking into things other than computers my question is what is the purpose of having a pandora battery? what does it change?

With a pandora battery and magic memory stick (mms) you can install custom firmware (cfw) onto a psp. Using cfw allows one to play homebrew games and run homebrew applications.

Sorry, I dont think I really A your Q.

A pandora battery allows you to turn on your psp into service mode. Once there you can install custom firmware (cfw). With custom firmware you can install homebrew games and applications (apps).

Ok I did what you said except that when i was taking that little thing i haven't completely taken it all of. I have most of it off but not all of it. Is that good enough or do I need to make sure its all of. If you want I could send a pic of the Battery if you want to see it. Also once I do this can I downgrade to 1.50 I think I have 3.95 but not sure. I just got my PSP yesterday so i'm not sure where you go to find what firmware I have.
