How to Install CFW on a psp without using a pandoras battery.

The video will not show you how to upgrade to 5.03

NOTE: This will not work with PSP-3000s [TA-090v2] or new PSP-2000s [TA-088v3].

ATTENTION: use this guide at your own risk, I am not responsible for anything that happens to your psp because you failed to read the directions.


What you need to make this happen:
A psp 1000, or 2000 No 3000
Running 5.03OFW
A memory stick
Psp battery charged to more then 75% (100% is best)

If you have your psp Below 5.03 OFW then you will need to update that before you start with the rest of the guide see green text. If your psp is already updated to 5.03 then proceed on to the blue text. If your psp is over 5.03 then, you cant do anything at the moment.

To Update a psp from a firmware to 5.03 then you must download the 5.03 file that is found here (see above).

Once you have downloaded the file, and have it on your computer, connect your psp to the computer, making sure that your memory card is inserted.

Open up the memory card and navigate to PSP>>GAME>> Now here you will need to make a folder called "UPDATE" without the ". When that folder is created drag the eboot.pbp (this is the 5.03 update file) into that folder. If it is not named EBOOT.PBP rename it to that first.

Once its copied quit from the usb mode and then go to the game, then memory stick on your psp. You should now see the 5.03 update. Start that and follow through making sure that you have over 75% battery.

After that is finished updating, go to system settings, system information to make sure that the firmware has installed correctly.

This part of the guide will instruct you on how to install the CFW without using a pandoras battery.

First you will need to download the file from here (see above)
This has all the files in it that you will need to proceed (it does not have the 5.03 update file).

After you have gotten all the files downloaded you will need to extract them to somewhere that you know where it is.


The first file that we are going to look at is the ChickHen folder. First you will need to open up the ChickHEN + Recovery folder. Once inside you will find the ChickHen folder. Open this folder and you will notice that there are three
files inside of here. If you dont notice the files then your download is messed up, or you are not going to the correct location.

Connect your psp to your computer and open it up to display the root of the memory card. The h.bin file gets copied to the root of your card. Next you need to open up the phat or slim folder (depending on your psp), Inside your folder of choice you will need to copy the image to the PHOTO folder on your memory card.


After you have done this, you are ready to go onto copying the Recovery part. Go back in the ChickHEN + Recovery folder till you find the folder called Hellcat's Recovery Flasher, open that up and you will now see a folder called RECOVERY. You will need to place this in the Game folder on your psp. So from the root of the card go to PSP>>Game>> You will place the folder in here.

You are now finished with those folders and can now disconnect from the usb mode.

Ok now we are about to begin this long process of getting the CFW on your psp. First you must go into the System settings then system information, and turn all things off, so umd autostart to off, umd cache to off, usb charge to off. (some apply to just slim).


Once you have set all that to off, you need to go to your pictures, and view them, for phat users you wait for it to happen, for slim users you need to open up the folder and scroll down to the bottom very fast. Now for everyone you will have the psp screen crash displaying blurred everything then it will reset. Phat users may have a green screen.

If your psp just crashes and turns off rather then restarting do the previous step again. If your psp reset then go to system settings then system information to make sure that chickhen is working. If it is, then go to the game menu and select the recovery flasher.

Start this and wait for it to show up.

This is the important part! If you have a PSP-3000s [TA-090v2] or new PSP-2000s [TA-088v3] Stop now. Unless you want to sit there with a nice looking paperweight. Dont come complaining back to me.


Click on acccpt when you get the first message, wait for it to load and you will be given a big list of options. You want to move down one and you should now be on the Install M33 CFW this is the one you want.

When you click on it you will get a message asking if you want to format your settings, you MUST click yes here. It will then ask you again if you want to preform this and install the CFW to your psp. Click yes.

Now all you have to do is sit back and wait for the magic to happen. Once it has completed (around 2-4 mins) it will tell you to press any button, press anything then wait, your power light may flash again and again, wait till all the lights on the psp have gone out. You can now turn on your psp again and enjoy the beauty of CFW without the need to buy a pandoras battery, thus saving you money.

Having difficulty in viewing the photo, as my PSP just crashes everytime (tried over a dozen times). I've double checked that everything is installed correctly and that the settings are correct. I'm running the PSP1001 on OFW 5.03. Any thoughts?

ok, i can tell you that you are on the correct track. You are using the phat photo correct? there is a slim and phat, you just copy that one file into the photo folder on the memory card.

ex: PSP MEMORY CARD = D:/PHOTO/picture here.
where D is the root of the card.

i am using the phat photo. I'm placing that photo into the PSP Memory Card (i think) here - E:\PSP\PHOTO\eggsploit

should i have the photo folder e:\PHOTO rather than e:\PSP\PHOTO ?

yes you should the other photo section. and you have the h.bin in the root of the memory card?
Ive had other ppl tell me its taken them 20 times to get it to work, i did it in three tries.
