The pet PSP shell project, MyWindows, is now in a functional beta-test phase, and it’s ready for installation on your handheld. It’s fun to play around with shell applications, because a lot of stuff could get the jump off from here. LordVisaris is the author of this exceptional piece of code, so mad props, and let’s wait on our haunches to see more of the same from this prolific coder.

The install’s pretty straightforward

o Unzip at the root of your MS and go into the menu xmb game to start: Last day MyWindow

We’re taking a peek at a brand new, home cooked meal of a time-waster in the form of an adventure game. Homebrew code warrior lordvisaris took the time out of his busy schedule to drop a piece of action titled simply Jungle Adventure Game. It’s just a start, but it promises to deliver a real homebrew giggle when it’s been properly fleshed out.

Okay, so check it out: Right now it’s just a platform game, sports some animation, and is ready for some custom maps. Look on the web for some pieces of his code if you’re interested in tagging along…

We’ve gotten some time with Buzz! Brain Bender, a recent release from SCEE and Relentless. The game is full of puzzles which are actually kind of engrossing and certainly difficult for all sizes of brains, but the game itself is only lukewarm. This will appeal to fans of the genre, but might not attract the new following that the genre deserves, and may even repel the most diehard puzzlemasters.

You pretty much have to endure a number of different puzzles and then find out what your Brainpower rating is, and then see how your brain is improving over time. However, you…

If you haven’t already been introduced to Loco Roco, now’s a good time to shake some hands and move on to the fascinating, saccharine-cute, kind-of-nauseating gameplay just in time for the release of its sequel, Loco Roco 2.

Many fans of the original cited its ultimately repetitive gameplay, so Sony has made sure to change things up a little bit and also to include lots more to do, including an expanded suite of minigames, to keep your enormous brain and epic attention span in check. It’s super-colorful and the music is fun and has an annoying tendency to get stuck in…

Word from the underground has Midnight Club: LA Remix favored by fans of the series, and especially by die-hard followers of the extreme racing genre, and we tend to agree; this title is packed with action, looks and sounds great, and has tons of replayability. We think its features outweigh the grievances hands-down, and we’re excited to get our friends hooked on this title, too.

The city in which the game takes place is big even for games of this generation, and it’s rendered well. Cruising around look for trouble and destruction doesn’t get much better than this, especially when you’re…

Check out the Final Burn Alpha Emulator if you’re fun of classic arcade games. This little piece of software handles emulation for MC680000 and Z/80-based arcade games. Titles from PGM, Cave, CPS1/2/3, Seta, Sega and Konami should now run with ease. You’ll have to pick up ROMs for this one, but you shouldn’t have any trouble at all finding them on the Internet.

This is a real find for gamers whose sensibilities hearken back to good ol’ days of pounding keys and jumping little anime toons around the screen, looking for megahit combos and the sweet, 16-bit shriek of victory. Find…

A new update for the underground homebrew application PSPTube now adds support for 16 different video sharing sites. Also, some other minor problems were resolved and fixed in this version. This is a crucial update and a much-appreciated bit of progress for a homebrew application that’s already become a major fan favorite and one of the more essential Internet media programs.

New features include a fix for a bug in Youtube which used to show the thumbnail and and title incorrectly, an addition of two streaming media sites, and a few updates to scripts and text features. The current list of…

Chatter from the exploit circuit has the relatively old PSP game GripShift being exploited for a buffer overflow hack. We’re excited because it’s interesting to see a new exploit that’s compatible with the PSP 3000, even if the game is really kind of lame. A paraphrase of an excerpt from the PSP hacker, MaTiAz, who discovered the flaw and authored a piece of code to demonstrate its presence, explains the exploit like this:

There’s a buffer overflow vulnerability during the loading of saves in games such as GripShift, which can be exploited to insert code in $ra. The return is found…

Everyone has to at least check out this excellent piece of underground code, circulating under the title 2050: The Last Island. It’s only a demo right now, and functionality is limited, but fans of games like GTA and other 3D atmospheric shooters and action questers will immediately recognize the proficiency with which this game is implemented.

The game is based on the Quake engine and looks pretty good, even this early in development. Functionality is instantly familiar, and you’ll be running around and doing stuff immediately with no reservations. There’s lots of stuff to do, like go shopping, fight things, make…

For fans of drawing funny things like embarrassing words and phalluses on unfortunate, passed out victims of keg parties, check out this great little homebrew. It literally lets you draw in XMB or actually in-game. Use the analog and the R-trigger to actually make the lines, and hit the circle to change colors.

You’ll end up with rainbow swirls and fun outlines all over everything you can possibly look at. This is one of those little hacks that makes wasting time even more fun that it was before. File this under “show of all your friends how nerdy you are,” and…
