PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B Released

The PSPGEN released the next version of its custom firmware—the 5.50 GEN-B. Current 5.00 M33 users can upgrade to this and access the Playstation Store directly.

To install this, you will need a PSP 1000 or 2000 running in custom firmware 5.50 GEN-A. If you own a PSP 3000 or any PSP with a TA-088v3, do not attempt to install this custom firmware.

The changelog is as follows:

  • Bug fix: the VSH menu can now be disabled
  • Pressing Select can start the recovery, bring up the VSH recovery menu, or do nothing at all (for those who wish to use Remote Play between their PSP and PS3)
  • Update via Network (taken from M33)
  • * That Evangelion Jo game we told you about; it can be launched & played now
  • Pandora (converting the battery to/from the Pandora-state) and Shutdown Device options added to the VSH menu
  • Flash1 format option adds a check that prevents a flash1 format if enabled
  • Access [remains open] to the PlayStation Store and Remote Play continues working

There are some bugs that need fixes in this firmware. Like when playing Evangelion, quickly press triangle and circle when starting the game. In the future, proper details on countering this protection will be released.

i keep getting error 80020148: the game couldn’t be started whenever i try running homebrew and emulator games. some still work so what’s the problem. can i go back to 5.00 m33?

    please help me.

Hello friend you can do it like this…….

    1.press select button
    2.go to UMD ISO mode
    3.Change it to m33 driver
    4. you are done

Now you will be able to play all the games like normal

  3. guz says:

how can i watch iso movie (like silent hill experience) without UMD, is it possible?

  4. Akanbi Mobolaji says:

    Thanx yohan.
but the problem still persists. truth be told some homebrews work like nester j and gpsp. but others that normally worked just don’t. normally when installing m33 there’s always a 1.50 kernel. so i’m thinking i’m missing it. or do i move all games into GAME 5.XX instead?

    bj

@Akanbi Mobolaji I would suggest Hellcats recovery to swith back to an m33 cfw. just google it or go to youtube and type it in, it works for me when i mess up my psp.

  6. Joe says:

I have the same problem. I wanted to update to play madden, but I can’t play my snes, cps, or gba emulators. Does anyone know how to fix this or is this something they might be working on for the next update?

  7. Pedro says:

    Hi,
I can’t get acess to the vhs menu. select button does nothing.
must I downgrade it or is there something else I can possibly do.

  8. Adriel says:

Hello Pedro, I had just figured out how to accesses the VHS menu with the Gen B. You need to enter the Recovery Menu (turn off you psp, then turn on it again holding R). In the Recovery Menu, select Configuration (the second option). Go down 7 times and select Use VhsMenu (that now seems to be DISABLED. Select it to enable the vhs). Select Back and then Exit. that´s it!
