The last official release of PSP firmware was at the end of November 2008, and since then two separate custom firmware versions of 5.02 have appeared on the Internet.
One of the custom homebrewed firmwares was brought to us by XiaoFeiChong. This version was a recompiled M33 firmware, but XiaoFeiChong’s version doesn’t support backups, including ISOs or CSOs. Still, this is a great piece of firmware if you’re looking to get into CFW.
The second homebrewed firmware came from a group named Team Omega. Like in XiaoFeiChong’s version, there’s no support for back-ups. However, the group claims some “new support for PSX games,” but, as is often true with firmware updates, a lot of home-cooked software and plugins might get screwed up by this CFW install.
We’ve got both custom firmware 5.02 versions here, so you can give ‘em a spin if you’ve got the stomach for a potential aggravation. We’ll keep an ear to the ground for more CFW updates as they drop, so stay plugged in.
