Of course, if you need your memory jogged a tad, we’ll remind you that Tatu are two Russian lesbians hailing from the city of Moscow, Russia, whose musical careers kicked off back in ’99.

The name Tatu comes from a shortening of the sentence “Eta devushka lyubit tu devushku,” which means “This girl loves that girl.” That’s a pretty apt summary of the band, whose two members were specially selected from a large group of contenders in a band-building effort by two prominent Russian producers. Similar to boy bands such as Backstreet Boys or N’Sync, Tatu is a musical project engineered from the top down to be a popular money-making machine. However, the girls of Tatu leveraged the authenticity of the band with their own vivacious spirit and considerable musical talents.
