Good news for passengers on Dark AleX’s Time Machine: You’ll be able to get your plugins working again. If you’re currently time-traveling to run CFW older than 5.00, M33, you’ll want to check out this little chunk of code that was just cooked up by the renegade programmer, Spiros. SEPlugins Time Machine gets down into the gears and fixes it right up. Here’s what Spiros says:

This is my first homebrew release for the psp. Basically, myself and a few people on the dark-alex.org forum’s realised that after 5.00 M33, plugins were no longer compatible with older firmwares when running them through time machine because of the new format (the 0 or 1 at the end of the plugin entry in the .txt file)

This minor difference caused the older firmwares to not recognize plugins. and i know most plugins work for 5.00 M33 except for the gta cheat device doesnt work on 5.00 M33 so some people who wish to use it and other plugins must run them through time machine.

You’ll want to digest the readme to ensure that you’re running everything the way it should be run. Other than that, folks, it’s all golden from here. Mad props to Spiros for his clutch assist.

Dark AleX is back in fine form with an application titled LEDA, the Legacy Software Loader. This piece of custom code inserts itself into M33 custom firmwares to enable you to run your 1.0 and 1.5 kernel-based homebrew applications. Check out the notes from Dark AleX himself:

Description:

• LEDA is a program that integrates into M33 custom firmwares to let some old 1.00/1.50 homebrew to run.
• To avoid waste of memory, leda is only loaded when necessary.
• Current compatibility is unknown as is still in beta.
• Although it may work on previous m33 versions, it has only be tested on 5.00 M33.
• The development of LEDA doesn’t mean that development of 1.50 kernel addon will be ceased. 1.50 addon is very easy to code, and thus it will still be coded for almost full 1.5 compatibility, but LEDA has some advantages over it.

Advantages:

• It works on slim too
• It doesn’t need much flash space
• You don’t need to care about which folder your homebrew is.
• LEDA first tries to load the homebrew program normally. If it works, then the homebrew is a 3.XX+ one, and leda terminates itself to not waste RAM. Otherwise, leda does some patches to load the 1.0/1.5 homebrew.
• Unlike 1.50 kernel addon, LEDA tries to be independent of firmware. This means that whenever a new version of M33 is released, leda will probably work without need of an update.

Disadvantages:

• Less compatibility. Anyways, I will try to make LEDA compatible with those old homebrew that are still useful today because they weren’t updated or because they have a better old version.

Install instructions:

• Copy LEDA folder to /PSP/GAME and run it. The program will install a prx in thesystem, this will be done very quickly. After this, you can already try to run 1.0/1.5 homebrew normally from XMB; LEDA folder is not needed anymore in the ms and you can delete it if you want.

Hot on the heels of the latest official PSP Firmware release from Sony, v5.03, comes Dark AleX’s latest custom firmware update. The most current version is now M33-6, which came just minutes after the release of M33-5. CFW 5.00 M33-6 is an exciting piece of homebrew awesomeness that shows off the prowess of the PSP underground. The following text is from the changelog:

This update is a try to fix memory stick low speed since 3.80.

Instructions: Copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run.

If you come from a version prior to 5.00 M33, put sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a wifi connection.

Changes in 5.00 M33-5:

A setting has been added to recovery, that, when enabled it may increase memory stick reading speed. (only on the psp, not in the pc). By default it is disabled. If you installed 3.71 fatmsmod, do not use this setting, as its perfomance with 3.71 driver has not been tested. Instead, reinstall 5.00 m33-4 using dc8 and update to 5.00 m33-5

Changes in 5.00 M33-6, according to the developer:

• Fixed a bug that made unbootable psp without memory stick or with a bad one.
• The included file fat_comparison.html contains a comparison of perfomance between the 5.00 fat driver, the 3.71 one, and the 5.00 one with the speed up hack during     the   read of an iso. The test was done on the game Valkyrie Profile in cso format in march33 mode. Other games, modes and applications different than iso reading     showed similar results.
