Load CTF Themes On PSP 3000 With The Unofficial CXMB For Custom Firmware 5.03 Gen-A

Unofficial CXMB for Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN/M33: Load CTF Themes on the PSP-3000 *Updated*

In the past, owners of the Playstation Portable 2 and 3 would risk bricking their handheld consoles if they board it with CTF themes. But thank to Total_Noob’s unofficial version of Poison’s CXMB for Custom Firmware 5.03 Gen-A, PSP 2 and 3 users can now load CTF-based themes in their consoles and enjoy the different interfaces of a CTF theme.

Total_Noob also said that CTF 5.02 is already compatible with the PSPs 2 and 3 with this new unofficial version of CXMB custom firmware. But he failed to mention whether CTF 5.00 is also compatible with the two handhelds so for security’s sake, don’t try it out until we posted something here again from Total_Noob.

If you want to try out some more CTF themes than the ones posted here before, check out http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/61 for more theme downloads.

Holler below for your comments on this new CXM custom firmware.

DayViewer Plugin Beta 3 For The PSP 3000

Monday, June 8th, 2009

DayViewer Plugin Beta 3 Released w/ Support for the PSP-3000

Remember that a couple of weeks ago, I posted a download link for the Dayviewer plugin. Unfortunately, the earlier version of this version was created only for the Playstation Portable 1 and 2; meaning, this could not be installed in the latest version (at least before the PSP Go was released) of the popular console game, the PSP 3000.

Total_Noob, the homebrew’s creator, just released the Beta 3 version for the PSP 3000.  The Dayviewer plugin would allow PSP users to see the day of the week besides the time and date at the upper right corner of your PSP screens. I wouldn’t exactly know what to make of this homebrew, but I guess it makes for a very apt organizer application since it coherently puts into one frame the most basic of our daily lives—day, date and time.

The Dayviewer plugin beta 3 includes the following changes:

  • Added in the config a function to view the day left or right
  • Supported PSP 3000 with 5.03 GEN-A
  • Added more support:
  1. 3.80 M33
  2. 3.90 M33
  3. 4.01 M33
  4. 5.03 GEN-A for HEN
  • Fixed the slow bug

For PSP 3000 users, get a hold of this one. It’s not often that something so simple would be concocted by our homebrew creators as most of the time, we’re blinded by complicated plugins that are no use for us.

Assassin’s Creed Theme For The PSP

PSP Theme: Assassin’s Creed

WaffleKopter releases a new theme for the Playstation Portable. Based on the Assassin’s Creed, the new theme works with a light blue background bearing the iconic logo of Assassin’s Creed.

The color of the fonts remains in default (white) while the keyboard changes to transparent, thank to Nothingface420. Also, the background for each category (memory stick, videos, music, games, etc) changes when opened. A sample picture shows The Assassin in sideview among a vicious color of midnight blue (dark clouds, thunder and lightning).

Personally, the use of Assassin’s Creed for a theme is not my most favorite of designs but the way WaffleKopter created the theme kind of works for me too. The transparent keyboard, however, is not a good idea. The contrast it created with the background does not bode well for my eyes. But aside from that, the theme is cool and unique.

Comments have been so far suggestive that the theme works for almost all PSP versions, and some users are unanimously praising WaffleKopter for his indigenous design. Although I’d tweak some things in the Assassin’s Creed theme, it’s still pretty neat if you want that crisp and uncluttered feeling on your screens.

Rubik’s Cube v1.6 Arrives In Your PSPs

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

PSP Rubik’s Cube v1.6 Released

The popular Rubik’s cube, which can be practically bought from any local stores, is now created to be enjoyed by PSP users in their consoles. Rubik’s Cube v1.6, thanks to Exter, has finally been released for the Playstation Portable.

The Rubik’s Cube v1.6 is a 3D mechanical puzzle (very much like the actual Rubik’s cube) invented in Ernő Rubik. Each of the six faces are covered by 9 stickers, or multicolored cubes. There are six colors: white, red, blue, orange, green and yellow. A pivot mechanism would allow the cube to turn independently, mixing up the colors for the puzzle. As in the classic goal of Rubik’s cube, each face must end up having the same solid color.

Changes in Rubik’s Cube v1.6 includes:

  • Move animation speed is now 40% faster.
  • The colors now match the colors of a real rubik’s cube (parallel sides were previously inverted).
  • Timer (starts when the cube is scrambled and stops when the cube is solved).

Get ready to challenge your friends and colleagues in a beat-my-time game with the Rubik’s Cube v1.6.

Vice PSP v2.1.2 Now Has PAL, NTSC And Old NTSC Selection

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Vice PSP v2.1.2

A new update for the Vice PSP has just been released by uberjack. The Commodore 64 emulator for the Playstation Portable features an option to select between PAL, NTSC or the old NTSC selection. There are also some more new features and options available in this latest release.

Here’s the changelog for Vice v2.1.2:

  • Added 4:3 (fit screen height) stretch mode, visible in NTSC mode or when border is disabled
  • Added border toggle – shows/hides the border surrounding the main display area
  • Added PAL/NTSC/Old NTSC mode selection
  • Added vertical blanking (VSync) support, only available in NTSC mode
  • Bugfix: PRG loading now works
  • Bugfix: “fit screen” stretch mode aspect ratio was incorrect; now fixed
  • Minor fixes

If you really think about it, there isn’t much with this update but the option to choose between PAL and NTSC would be useful especially for our traveling PSP users. Some countries’ default video format is PAL, while others stay with NTSC. Provided that PAL has better resolution and quality, NTSC is much easier to use.

Please check the video format you need before installing this homebrew.

New Bug Fix For PSP Power Saver v0.0.8

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

PSP Power Saver v.0.0.8: bug fix release

The Power Saver v0.0.8 for the Playstation Portable is probably one of the most indigenous creation made for the PSP. But when the version was released, there are some few bugs that caused problems to those who installed the PSP Power Saver v0.0.8.

Luckily, Warlock—the creator of the PSP Power Saver v0.0.8—made a few changes in the log and came up with the bug fixes for the Power Saver.

Changelog:

  • Fixed a few bugs, having to do with the powersaver battling for ram against other prxs causing random shutoffs
  • Psppacked it now it runs alot smoother

The Power Saver is a mighty tool for the PSP. Many PSP games run your battery dry after a few short hours, especially if you did not charge it properly (drain it before you plug it in). This homebrew does not only saves an unusual amount of charging time but it also gives us more hours to play Tekken, Need For Speed, or even Luxor and some quiz games.

The Release Of The Defense Station Portable v2 Warmly Welcomed

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Defense Station Portable v2 Released

There’s some Pingpong game on play here. First, the Defense Station Portable was released for the Playstation Portable (take note of the “portable”) then; a version was made for the iPhone. And now…. They are taking the Defense Station Portable back to the PSP.

Danzel’s originally crafted Defense Station Portable’s objective is simple enough: you set up shop in the area, cannons, laser towers, anti-air guns, etc. There is always an impending attack on your domain so you might as well be on defense (thus, the name Defense Station, see?). And once you take out each wave by the enemy, you’ll save some cash allowing you to buy or purchase more accessories or at the very least, upgrade your current weapons.

The interface, bless Danzel, is not much to boast about. It’s a sore to the eyes. The endless monochrome of greens does not leave much to be glad about. But overall, the game is reminiscent of those old Nintendo games I used to play on our Family Computer.

If you’re currently an iPhone user, download the game from the App Store. Enjoy!

PspStates Experiment v2 Provides All Your Saving Needs

Monday, June 1st, 2009

This is, as they say, the icing on top of the cake. And if it works, my kid cousin would probably go nuts and kiss my feet for discovering this trick. Dark_AleX has just released the PspStates for custom firmware 5.00 M33, which allows you to save everything—exact whereabouts, stages, high score, clothes, money, guns, accessories, etc—save it and you’ll find it the next day exactly as how you saved it. No frills, just like that.

It is still on its experimental stage but I believe it works with just about all games in the market today at it shares the same code or whatever.

By the way Dark_AleX notes that:

“This is same version as the one for 4.01 M33 but updated to do patches in 5.00 M33, that’s why version hasn’t changed yet.

Remember to discard old savestates from 4.01 before using the plugin. If you attempt to load a savestate made in 4.01 your ram would be in 4.01 M33 but the flash in 5.00 M33, and soon or later it will crash or give problems.”

Please do note the readme.txt included in the download so you won’t butcher your own installment of the plugin.

New PSP Version Of SK8 Dice

Friday, May 29th, 2009

PSP homebrew - SK8 DICE for PSP

There was a time when Sk8 Dice is a mere iPhone application that friends, and friend of friends, would borrow iPhones just so they can play with the app. But then, Exogan brings us the Playstation Portable version of the infamous game.

Sk8 Dice for PSP is based on real dices and is specially made for all skaters out there. It basically has the same rules as that of the iPhone app only that now, you can download and install it in your PSPs (not sure about the models that this could support).

Sk8 Dice is a sports application developed by Sourcebits for the iPhone, which uses the Unity 3D Framework. Essentially, what it does is that it lets you recognize a trick by rolling the dice so you could be ready to roll on your skates.

To install it in your PSPs, simply put the file in the GAME folder and you’re ready to rock and roll.
