With the release of patpat’s CTF Tool GUI v2, it will now enable you to convert CTF 5.00 theme to 5.50. The CTF theme that the tester tried to convert using the CTF Tool GUI v2 is Nothingface420’s Grand Theft Auto IV for 5.00.

Homebrew coder Patpat says that the conversion process from 5.00 to 5.50 is beta may not always work. This may also not work with all Playstation Portable versions since the test was done on a PSP Slim (PSP 2000) running in 5.50 GEN-B. And since this is only in its beta form, there might also be a couple of bugs when installing so be sure you follow the process perfectly.

Some said, however, that CXMB for 5.50 GEN plug-in doesn’t work with 5.50 GEN-B firmware, “rendering this useless.” But tests said it does, so maybe it depends actually on the CTF themes you are going to convert, and not on the firmwares installed in your PSPs.

Yoshihiro, a homebrew developer, unleashed a utility that installs 5.50 debug firmware on Playstation Portable 1000. It can also run the application without any limitations.

The Debug Firmware 5.50 For PSP 1000 is a testing tool that will allow you to test your downloaded games in file format during its development stage. It will also allow you to see hidden options of your PSP, which could possibly unlock the full capacity of the system.

This testing tool will especially be useful for gamers who do not like downloading different games and plugins into their handhelds without assurance that they will work productively with the system. This will conveniently save time and space for gamers.

Hopefully too, Yoshihiro would create something like this for the PSP 2000 and 3000.

Although no date has been announced yet regarding its release, watch out for this testing tool. This is one download I’m sure you won’t regret.

Dark AleX is back in fine form with an application titled LEDA, the Legacy Software Loader. This piece of custom code inserts itself into M33 custom firmwares to enable you to run your 1.0 and 1.5 kernel-based homebrew applications. Check out the notes from Dark AleX himself:

Description:

LEDA is a program that integrates into M33 custom firmwares to let some old 1.00/1.50 homebrew to run.

To avoid waste of memory, leda is only loaded when necessary.

Current compatibility is unknown as is still in beta.

Although it may work on previous m33 versions, it has only be tested on 5.00 M33.

The development of LEDA doesn’t mean that development of 1.50 kernel addon will be ceased. 1.50 addon is very easy to code, and thus it will still be coded for almost full 1.5 compatibility, but LEDA has some advantages over it.

Advantages:

It works on slim too

It doesn’t need much flash space

You don’t need to care about which folder your homebrew is.

LEDA first tries to load the homebrew program normally. If it works, then the homebrew is a 3.XX+ one, and leda terminates itself to not waste RAM. Otherwise, leda does some patches to load the 1.0/1.5 homebrew.

Unlike 1.50 kernel addon, LEDA tries to be independent of firmware. This means that whenever a new version of M33 is released, leda will probably work without need of an update.

Disadvantages:

Less compatibility. Anyways, I will try to make LEDA compatible with those old homebrew that are still useful today because they weren’t updated or because they have a better old version.

Install instructions:

Copy LEDA folder to /PSP/GAME and run it. The program will install a prx in thesystem, this will be done very quickly. After this, you can already try to run 1.0/1.5 homebrew normally from XMB; LEDA folder is not needed anymore in the ms and you can delete it if you want.

Fantastic. Dark AleX keeps us all on our toes. Grab the ‘brew right here and size it up for yourself.

Backyard hacker agilemonkey has come up with a refreshing homebrew application that he calls PSP PPG v0.22. This interesting snippet of code lets you display English TV listings on your PlayStation Portable using CFW. It acts as a TV guide utilizing the XMLTV format to render its listings. Here’s an overview from the creator:

Here’s developer agilemonkey’s how-to guide:

Extract the zip file

Inside the PPG022 folder amend the configuration file (PPG.CFG) to point to the UKlistings I have generated

RepositoryURL = http://agilemonkey.co.uk/psp
RepositoryPRGList = freebox
*Window users use notepad rather than wordpad etc so dodgy characters are not added to the file

Download UK image files – These are a wip so please be patient

Load the homebrew into the game folder on your custom firmware PSP

When you initially run the application it will download the current listings file

Optional: Hack the homebrew binary to replace French text with English using a hexeditor

Grab the software here to check it out.

Download PSP PPG v0.22

From cosmic underworld developer AhMan comes the newest iteration of his popular iR Shell homebrew application: iR Shell v4.9 is ready to rumble, and it’s been given a ton of new features this time around. Free up about 15 MB on your memstick, though. Check out the massive log:

New Features:

Support Playstation Network downloable games & demos. Pls note you need to set Umd Mode to M33 or NP9660 in iR Configurator in order to run PSN titles.

Added support to interlaced TV including component interlace & composite. You can configure the TV type via “TV Mode” option in iR Configurator. You should only use the iR Shell hotkey (Left Trigger + Right) to toggle between TV mode & PSP LCD. Don’t press PSP display button to switch TV mode. Games & homebrews launching from iR Shell will inherit the TV mode. Most games will run at full speed with default CPU clock. If you experience slow down for certain games, you can modify the CPU clock speed to 333MHz in iR Shell.

For slim PSP TV out, added an option to control the audio output to PSP speaker. This will be useful for docking station with TV out & charging capabilities. An option named “TV Out Cable Audio Output” in iR Configuator allows you to choose the audio to be outputed to TV, PSP, or following the active display. For the “Following active display”, the audio will come from the PSP when the LCD screen is active; when you switch the display to TV, the audio will be re-routed to TV.

Added an option to disable Memory Stick MagicGate support. This is meant to be used for PhotoFast microSD to MSPD adapter, or other similar non-MagicGate MS. By disabling the MagicGate support, you will no longer experience the annoying pause in XMB, such as turning on the PSP, switching off USB mode from XMB, quiting game/homebrew back to XMB, entering XMB video directory, etc. You shouldn’t disable the MagicGate Support if you’re using a genuine Sony or Sandisk MSPD.

Added connection timeout support for nethostfs. You can modify the “NetHost Conncetion Timeout” value in iR Configurator. Default is 10 seconds. Previously, the connection will block for 1 minute if the host doesn’t exist.

For the IR learning remote, the 30 seconds timeout has been removed. Instead, you can now press SELECT button to abort the learning process.

For the IR learning remote, added an option “R-Trigger + Select” to define number of iR Code segments to be captured. This is only useful for certain rare remotes that need consecutive code pairs to work. If you don’t know what it is, you probably don’t need it.

Added ability to have a user supplied font file for each skin. Name your font file as “font.fnt” and place it under your skin directory. You can also place a default font file under /IRSHELL/SYSTEM. This default font file will be used if no font file residing in the skin directory when you’re installing a skin. Pls note if there are no default font file in /IRSHELL/SYSTEM and skin directory, the system will use an internal font (the original iR Shell font). The user supplied font file needs to be 8×8 fixed width bitmap font. The font file must cover the standard ASCII character set 0×20 – 0x7F, ASCII code 0×00 – 0x1F are dummies & won’t be used in iR Shell.

Added a “Line Spacing” option in iR Configurator which allows to define the line spacing in all iR Shell views (DIR, APP, SAV & RDF). The line spacing unit is in number of pixels. Default is 2. Prior to this release, the line spacing was always 0.

Following bugs have been fixed:

The APP View will crash for certain homebrews.

When you edit an existing remote, it will always default to 40kHz. Now, the default carrier frequency will be the 1st learned IR code in the remote file.

The HOME button is not disabled when switching from APP/Game to iR Shell. Pressing the HOME button to quit while in iR Shell will hang the system.

Some ISOs using sceKernelLoadExec() failed to work under NP9660 mode.

PRXPlugin isn’t working when nethostfs MAX mode is active for Phat.

Installation Instructions:

Unzip the archive and place the content to the root directory of your memory stick. Make sure to apply the irspatch under ms0:/IRSHELL/PATCH directory for your cooresponding firmware version.

There comes a time in a man’s life when he’s about to grab a game update, but then his pesky portable fun-screen starts yammering at him that his battery’s not full enough to get the installation going. Then, his eyes are all crusted over with yesterday’s dreams and tomorrow’s promises, and he’s half-drunk, stumbling around his cobwebby room, pleading desperately for release – or at least a charger or USB cable. Anything to plug in to the gat-dang thing. Crisis scenario. Okay, well, that’s why NoEffex cooked up this little plugin. It simply fools the PSP into thinking that the battery’s at 100% charge, so you can get around the requirement check. Here’s NoEffex’s release notes on the matter:

The main use for this is those games that install updates sony-style, and require 75% or so battery, when that is totally unnecessary and a waste of your time, because if you run out of battery – oh well, start over, nothing harmed, as it does not flash a thing.

How NOT to use: During flashing(specifically flash0) things that require 75% battery. Not a bright idea. You can, but if you screw up, not my problem .

How it works:

Patches

scePowerGetBatteryPercent to always return 100 via jr ra->addiu $v0, $zero, 100

scePowerIsLowBattery to always return 0 via jr ra->addu $v0, $zero, $zero

scePowerIsBatteryExist to always return 1 via jr ra->addiu $v0, $zero, 0×0001

THEN Unloads itself, so it won’t make your kernel memory all lame and sliced up

Though fx_powerspoof doesn’t do anything to harm your battery, there could be a problem if you use it while working on flash0 (see “How NOT to use” note).
