Euro GripShift Exploit Leads To Homebrew Enabler For PSP-3000

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

More news for those of you following the GripShift exploit. The homebrew underground has been looking hard for ways to increase the versatility of the newly-discovered exploit, and one team just stumbled across some real treasure. The group PSPGEN have developed a Homebrew Enabler out of the exploit that’s centered around the European version of GripShift. The HEN allows for both kernel mode and user mode homebrew.

Naturally, Sony is going to be working their corporate butts off to clog this exploit, but the underground has really been in a frenzy since the whole GripShift fiasco got started, so who knows what the geniuses deep below the surface of the Earth will dig up next. We’ve got our ears to the ground on this one for sure, so stay tuned for updates – we’ll post ‘em up here as they drop.

Sabacc Basics 0.7.0a Is A Game For The Most Superior Nerds

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Sabacc Basics 0.7.0a has just dropped, and we just told you about it. If you’ve never heard of Sabacc, it’s because you’re not nearly nerdy enough. Sabacc is a game which originated in the Star Wars universe, sort of like a cross between Poker and Blackjack. It’s a cool game in its own right. Props to the code samurai, goumba, for keeping this interesting little sport alive. Here’s the full changelog:

Version 0.7.0a

Fixed: Completed transition to PSP dialogs.

Version 0.7.0

New: Card face names and suites are rendered using Peter Schuster’s New Aurebesh. I can’t find any license info online, hopefully it’s ok for me to use it.
New/Fixed: Some dialog changes.
Fixed: Misc. bug fixes.

Version 0.6.4

Fixed: PSP crash on startup.
Fixed: More dealer call logic.
Fixed: Rearranged the event handling code within the game itself. It no longer uses switch/case, PSP and Keyboard controls now being handled within the same blocks.

Version 0.6.3

Fixed: Some logic flaws in the code for calculating the winner when the hand is called.
Fixed: The dealer called as soon as the round started. This meant that the player was not looking at their current cards or total when the hand was called. The dealer now calls after the player passes on the opportunity and before the next round continues.
Fixed: A debugging feature where the dealer’s cards were displayed slipped through into the build. This has been fixed.
Fixed: When the hand is called, the dealer’s cards are now displayed. A bug in previous versions continued to hide the cards.
Fixed: Resized the call dialog so that when the hand is called, the dealer’s cards are visible behind the dialog. This was originally intended to be accomplished with a standard size dialog and alpha blending, but that isn’t happening.

Verion 0.6.2

New: Graphics for suite display.
Fixed: A rather big bug. You freeloaders didn’t mention it either. When the player ran out of credits, they were still able to continue playing. This has been fixed.

Version 0.6.1

Never released.
Fixed: Some small bug fixes.

Definitely get down and dirty with this game. You’ll enjoy it, and we’ll enjoy you enjoying it. Stay tuned for more updates as they drop.

DJ Drops Demo 5 Is Released To The Screaming Masses

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Check out this awesome new homebrew application from the code ninja whose undecipherable alias is daaa57150. This is another similar-to-Tetris game where you’ve gotta clear out stacks of lines. This is a musical game, too, so you’ll be jamming along to exploding blocks and all of that neat stuff. There’s also a combo system, as described here:

  • the classical : blocks explode, those above fall and connect, combo!
  • the explosion : the blocks take some time to explode and during this moment you can add other blocks to make more combos
  • the cooldown : after an explosion, a small amount of time is given to make blocks explode somewhere else, if you do it before the time is elapsed, you make more combos.

The game’s still got some bugs and the graphics aren’t smoothed over yet, but it’s definitely playable. We encourage you to stop whatever you’re doing, comb your hair back into a long, flowing mane, and install this gnarly game right away. We’ll keep you updated as the man leaks new versions. Stay tuned.

Sailor Moon Homebrew For PSP Makes Our Eyes Glimmer

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

For you gangsters out there who have tons of warm and fuzzy memories of Sailor Moon, here’s a drop from the underground that should keep you occupied for a few minutes. It’s titled Code Name Sailor V, and it’s the third game in the Destiny Revival Series.

It’s supposed to be a prequel to Sailor Moon Plus, and it’ll stay close to the Manga that shares its name.

Here’s a quote from the game description:  ”the game follows the story of Minako Aino on her journey to find herself in her training to become a Sailor Senshi. Joining her is Katarina, an Interpol Officer. Together, they are trying to snuff out the Dark Agency, a villainous group destined for Global Domination.”

And some features for all y’all:

  • Two game modes (Easy and Hard Modes) plus 2 unlockable bonus sets
  • (Bonus Sets Exclusive to Dreamcast and Wii Releases)
  • Two player Mode support
  • Original voices and cutscenes
  • Specialized Enemy AI
  • Specialized Boss AI
  • Katarina features a new weapon system that will be a precursor to the “Planet Power System” to be used in Sailor Moon S

Grab it right here. Oh, and it’s also available for the Wii. Isn’t that rad? More news as it drops.

GripShift Exploit Driving Up Ebay Sales

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

In case you haven’t already had a big, soggy bowl of your daily lulz, check out this tidbit: apparently sales of GripShift have really spiked on eBay since MaTiAz dropped that dope buffer overflow exploit. The ravenous, drooling PSP underground confirms that one bid has shot all the way to $99. Naturally, the whole scene’s been nuts since the exploit was confirmed, tested, and explored.

Check out our post on MaTiAz and FreePlay’s first demo of the exploit. For more news on the exploit as it drops, keep your eyeballs firmly glued to this blog.

iR Shell 4.8 Is A Critical Piece Of Steak And Eggs

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve checked iR Shell by underworld hackninja AhMan. The current version works with the extra memory available to the PSP Slim, and also addresses a few bugs that were terrorizing earlier versions. Here’s the unabridged change log:

New Features for PSP Slim:

  • Added support to homebrews that are built with the option PSP_LARGE_MEMORY, that is, to use the extra slim memory. When running these homebrews under iR Shell, they will have access to another 26MB slim RAM. Pls note 2MB of slim RAM is reserved for iR Shell.
  • Enhance the HTML Viewer (originally developed by Dark_AleX) to use the extra slim memory. These should help to reduce “Not enough memory” message when accessing larger web contents. The HTML Viewer can be accessed via predefined homebrew #1 icon.

Bug Fixes:

  • Some homebrews weren’t correctly recognized by iR Shell and application names were displayed as garbage.
  • When setting np9660 mode in iR Configurator, some homebrews failed to launch.
  • Launching PS1 games via popsloader wasn’t working properly.
  • Copying a large file from ms0: to nethost0: will crash the system.

You’ll still need to download v4.7, since this is just a minor update, so grab that here, too.

Despertar del Cementerio v8 Available For Mind-Boggling Fun With MMS Sticks

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

The Despertar del Cementerio tool, developed by underground homebrew legend Dark_AleX, is now available as version 8. Users can now create MMS sticks that go directly to 5.00 M33-4. This will not work with the PSP-3000 or on anything with the TA-088v3 motherboard, so too bad, for all y’all three-thou’ers who had your fingers crossed.

Mad props to Dark AleX for staying savvy with the hardware interface software, and thanks for all his hard work and devotion to the scene. Show him some respect on the boards.
