Sony To Pull The Plug On Yaroze PSOne Development Program

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Yaroze PSOne development program shutting down

The Nat Yaroze program is the one that made console-development possible and available to aspiring coders—the non-professionals. Now, after 12 years, Sony is said to be pulling the Yaroze PSOne Development Program from the shelves.

Through this, subscribers were able to access an online community, development software and the rare opportunity to access the black Playstation One console, which allows developers to run their own codes in the system.

However, a Sony representative assured its subscribers that there’s still a chance they will be able to hold memoirs of their beloved Yaroze PSOne Development Program. We plan to make a copy of the site available for our original members,” said SCEE’s Paul Holman. He also said that a get-together will be held for the members of the development community.

The Yaroze PSOne will be cancelled in July but Sony refused to specify the exact date of the pullout.

Ratings Are Up For Final Fantasy VII

ESRB: Final Fantasy VII rated for PS3, PSP

Probably because of consistent clamors made by fans of the infamous the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix and Sony rated Final Fantasy VII for the PSP and also for the PS3. This means we could be seeing this game soon on the Playstation Store as a PSOne Classic.

And as soon as it’s available on the PS Store, we’ll wait final announcement until its ready for download too. Can’t wait to gift my cousin with a new game on his console. An early birthday treat like the Final Fantasy VII will make me a hero to his eyes.

Together with the PSOne Classic, those that are rated for the PSP and PS3 include: Spec Ops: Airborne Commando, XS Junior League Soccer, Ford Racing, Dead in the Water, Contra Legacy of War, and Mobile Light Force.

As of the time I am currently posting this blog, there has been no official confirmation yet as to when is the release of the Final Fantasy VII but with the E3 fest just around the corner, I am hoping we will hear more about the ratings passed on Final Fantasy VII, Spec Ops: Airborne Commando, etc.

PlayStation Portable Sales Top 50 Million Units

Sony PSP game console sales tops 50 million units

Sony announced on Friday that global sales of the PSP have broken the 50 million mark. The PSP was first released in Japan in December of 2004 and came to the U.S., Europe, and the rest of Asia in 2005.

The current market leader of handheld gaming systems is Nintendo, whose DS portable console has sold 96.2 million units since December 2004. However, the PSP outpaced the DS for several months last year, according to the Tokyo-based publication, Enterbrain.

We’ll have to strap ourselves to our chairs and watch this year’s numbers unfold, but chances are the PSP will stay neck-and-neck with the DS as we plummet head-first into 2009.
