STEP 1: How to make your PSP “Better”???

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Games- The tip for getting games, especially for PSP, is what you think you would play over and over and over again. The replay value increases if it has online capability. My favorites games for the PSP are SOCOM: Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo 2, Daxter, Ratchet and Clank size matters, Star Wars Battlefront II, Midnight club, and Either Grand Theft Autos.

Video- Having videos on your PSP really makes a difference on road trips. There are free programs on the Internet for converting videos into PSP forms, for example Orbit .

Music- Unless you have a Ipod, the PSP is also good for just listening to music.

Pictures- Showing pictures on your PSP to your friends, and you can also set it as your background.

Internet- The PSP internet is fun when you don’t want to carry your laptop around. It can’t support large sums flash, so no videos, no games, no porn (unless its pictures:)

Cuboid Is Gnarly New Drop For The PlayStation Network

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Available on the eighth of January is Cuboid, a kind-of-innovative, definitely pleasant-looking, and broadly engrossing puzzler set against a backdrop of high-definition ruins, jungle-like places, and other cool places that the developers have strung together to create a rad braingame environs.

The initial release over the network offers 66 levels, with some new premium packs and a custom level creator on the way. Fun gameplay elements like switches, weak tiles and teleports ensure a dynamic, frustratingly fun time-wasting experience, and the thing’ll look great on a gigantic, indulgent flat-screen television.

All of the levels are solvable, so play ‘em all until you kick their butts. Then have some new-age herbal tea and relax until the next fun PSN drop. That’s all for now on this one.

Yep, for you fans of the Japanese-only Dissidia: Final Fantasy, there’s a couple of new passwords available for unlocking even more indulgent, exceptionally geeky content. You have to enter the following passwords in the Friend Card message using the hankaku character set:

A3NASX6UXT7

In exchange for the first, you’ll receive the FFIX Steiner Friend Card. The second will land you a Gemini Recipe for the ‘Critical Luck’ item.

Buzz! Brain Bender Is Run-Of-The-Mill Puzzler

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

We’ve gotten some time with Buzz! Brain Bender, a recent release from SCEE and Relentless. The game is full of puzzles which are actually kind of engrossing and certainly difficult for all sizes of brains, but the game itself is only lukewarm. This will appeal to fans of the genre, but might not attract the new following that the genre deserves, and may even repel the most diehard puzzlemasters.

You pretty much have to endure a number of different puzzles and then find out what your Brainpower rating is, and then see how your brain is improving over time. However, you can play the games as many times in a row as you want, eliminating a perhaps crucial control variable from the not-so-scientific-to-begin with concept. A lot of other similar games allow testing just once-a-day, which creates a more reliable picture of improvement over time.

There’s basic math stuff included here, as well as some rather intriguing pattern recognition and visual mindbending. You’re not going to get boggled if you’re a genius, but even a big thinker might break a sweat on some of these well-designed exercises. Also, different challenge levels are unlocked as your progress through gameplay, so expect a little bit of a ramp-up if you’re finding the game too easy right off the bat.

Content aside, the game itself looks good and takes advantage of the pretty PSP screen. Its colors are warm and energetic, and you’ll at least appreciate the palette. Try this one out a little bit before you commit, but we think it’ll garner a mixed reaction at best from gamers across the board.

Neverland Card Battles Makes Us Kind Of Wince

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Yep. It seemed like a good premise: mashing together some of that nostalgic, collectible card game fun with a turn-based strategy game. We remember how much of a good time it was to lay out some cards and tap them and put counters on them and stuff, and, heck, some of us are still doing it. Too bad it didn’t really work out in this game; Neverland Card Battles is stuck somewhere between the idea and actually creating a game that’s fun to play and has some coherency.

The graphics in this game suck. We know they’re cute and kind of retro, but they’re just lazy. The storyline is kind of cool, or at least it’s solid enough to hold our attention long enough to comment on the gameplay. It’s a typical, anime-influenced, timeless battle of epicness and heroes and quests.

Actually, the game itself is more like a board game with card game elements. Strategy fans might like it. It might even translate into an interesting tabletop game, with cute, die-cast figures and some clickable plastic bases. But, as a PSP game, it’s just lame. For some reason, the developers really cheaped out on the implementation. Even the audio is dumb. Try it out for yourself, though. Maybe we’re not seeing the trees for the forest.
