Resistance Retribution

While we knew a while back that you could pre-order Resistance: Retribution for PSP from Amazon, we now know that you can also pre-order from GameStop. It’s nice to have a choice. What’s cool is that pre-ordering will also enable you to utilize a voucher code that you’ll receive in order to download a Resistance: Retribution demo game. The official release for the full version of Resistance: Retribution is still listed as March 17th.

A neat thing about the new Resistance: Retribution demo is that it allows you test the Connect feature, which many fans have been looking forward to. Follow the instructions below to correctly set up the connect between the PSP and the PS3:

  • Insert and load Resistance: Retribution on the PSP.
  • Insert and load Resistance 2 on the PS3.
  • Connect PSP to PS3 via USB Cable.
  • From “Start” menu on the Resistance 2 menu, select “Options”.

Grapevine: Sony Is Conducting A Survey Regarding New PSP Features

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Rumor: Sony asking gamers about new PSP's features

Here it is from the rumor mill, folks: Word has it that Sony is overseeing a survey asking gamers’ opinions regarding future PSP hardware and potential software functionalities that may appear on future systems.

Someone apparently in the know sent word over that participants in the Sony-conducted survey had to rank some features that are currently not available on the PSP. Some purported stuff on the list: Built-in GPS, Bluetooth wireless, internal data storage, and…a touchscreen!

Here’s a more detailed list of possible PSP stuff that appears in the survey:

  • Was smaller, yet retained most of the current PSP’s screen size
  • Offered social networking functionality on the XMB
  • Included a keyboard for easer internet browsing and communication
  • Offered Bluetooth wireless support for easy pairing with other devices
  • Had a touch screen
  • Had an imprved screen for more dynamic graphic displays
  • Offered the ability to find others near you who want to connect for online gaming
  • Offered an e-comic/book download service through the PlayStation Network
  • Included a hard drive for memory storage

For now, this is still, like we said, fodder from the rumor mill. Keep your eyes glued to this website, though, and we’ll keep you up-to-date with more concrete news as it drops.

  • viewport may be rotated by 90, 180 or 270 degree
  • reacts on display settings changes, no restart necessary
  • multi-threaded, opening the menue will no longer freeze the display
  • PSP can be unplugged and replugged while PSPdisp is enabled

Friday, January 16th, 2009

PSP homebrew - jpcsp v0.1 revision 894

The ever-popular jpcsp v0.1 Java-based PSP emulator, which we just reviewed on January 13th, has again been upgraded: jpcsp v0.1 Revision 894 is available here, and you’ll just want to put on your silly hat and dig right in.

With an unprecedented degree of efficiency, Shadow and his JPCSP team have turned out another iteration of the software that’s been well-received from the underground for its technically-advanced rendering of the PSP hardware. Unfortunately, no changelog accompanies this revision, so you’ll have to plug away yourself and draw your own conclusions. We’ll bet that the most important updates are in the form of major and minor bug fixes and some performance jumps. Likely they’ll be working to resolve compatibility issues, too.

Grab jpcsp v0.1 Revision 894 right here, and take a look at the readme, which comes packaged with the download. As always, stay tuned for more updates to this exciting home-brewed software.

Early Arrival of Dissidia In Korea Bears Cool Calendar Freebie

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

True fans of the Final Fantasy series, and followers of its development company, Square Enix, have been eagerly awaiting for the drop of Dissidia: Final Fantasy in their own language. Korea wins out, getting the first version in Korean on January 20th. Along with the game, fans will receive free desktop calendars if they initiate a valid pre-order between January 12th and January 14th.

Square Enix and SCEA know how eagerly their American fans are awaiting the release of this game, so maybe they’ll do some kind of rad promotional thing on our behalf, too. We’d like to see something with LEDs or lasers, preferably. Or maybe some kind of neat fan club, like the Burger King Kids Club, except even more gnarly. We’ll take an embossed card to prove our mettle to our jealous friends. More news on the stateside drop of Dissidia as it leaks. Stay tuned.
