Shell SYSTEM v9.0: Windows-type environment with mini-games

Shell SYSTEM v9.0 just fell into our hands from the perpetual international backyard PSP barbecue, and we’re pumped up about what’s hot on the grill this time: SYSTEM v9.0 is a Windows-like operating environment for your PlayStation Portable that packs an mp3 player, an image viewer, and a few nifty time-wasting games for your particular pleasure. Its developer goes only by the alias 0917725929, which may very well be your ticket to talk to this mysterious cook live and direct. Anyway, here’s the feature list for SYSTEM v9.0:

  • There is an Installer
  • Introduction “animated” with the Front
  • Mouse feature
  • System Update online
  • Internet Browser
  • UMD Dumper for
  • Note (Not functional)
  • Settings (Three available CPU frequency: 133, 266 and 333 mHz)
  • System Info (Firmware of the PSP model, time, date, ID,% battery remaining, remaining, temperature, voltage)
  • MP3 Player
  • Video Player (WPSPtube)
  • Images (PDF only: PDF Reader)
  • USB connection (F0, F1, UMD, MS)
  • Transfer ad-hoc (PSP File Transfer)
  • Explorer (launch of ISO, PRX and PBP)
  • Simple Calculator (coded in C)
  • Tester buttons (Coded in C)
  • Mini-games (Invasion I, Grand Tour Auto Beta)
  • Date and Time in all menus
  • Percentage battery remaining in all the menus (all info on the battery are displayed only if the battery is inserted)
  • Buttons stop, pause, and back to XMB in all menus.

Grab it. It’s hot. It’ll fill you up. Mad respect to the developer to his (or her?) hard work.

iR Shell 4.8 Is A Critical Piece Of Steak And Eggs

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve checked iR Shell by underworld hackninja AhMan. The current version works with the extra memory available to the PSP Slim, and also addresses a few bugs that were terrorizing earlier versions. Here’s the unabridged change log:

New Features for PSP Slim:

  • Added support to homebrews that are built with the option PSP_LARGE_MEMORY, that is, to use the extra slim memory. When running these homebrews under iR Shell, they will have access to another 26MB slim RAM. Pls note 2MB of slim RAM is reserved for iR Shell.
  • Enhance the HTML Viewer (originally developed by Dark_AleX) to use the extra slim memory. These should help to reduce “Not enough memory” message when accessing larger web contents. The HTML Viewer can be accessed via predefined homebrew #1 icon.

Bug Fixes:

  • Some homebrews weren’t correctly recognized by iR Shell and application names were displayed as garbage.
  • When setting np9660 mode in iR Configurator, some homebrews failed to launch.
  • Launching PS1 games via popsloader wasn’t working properly.
  • Copying a large file from ms0: to nethost0: will crash the system.

You’ll still need to download v4.7, since this is just a minor update, so grab that here, too.
